Picked up a late '90s Heritage Springer front end recently. After mocking it up, looks like I'm missing a spacer or something somewhere on the front axle. Does anyone have an exploded view of an FLSTS (wide springer) front axle so I can figure out what I'm missing? Pic w/part numbers would be extra special TIA
TTT I'm thinking about building one of those... Best bet would be take some pics an take em to the local stealer...

I thought all the late model FLs & FXSs took the speedo off the ****** at 1:1 and only the FXs & XLs had the front wheel speedo drive. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that cuz I just don't know... Exactly what year is it? I'm still looking for an exploded view. I sold all my Harley microfiche a couple months ago. Later models should be an electronic Speedo. There should be spacer on either side. Has the front wheel been changed? Check the hub to make sure someone didn't try to change the wheel. There have been at least 3 changes on the Springer. 88-96, 97 to 99 and 2000 up all have some differences.
I think it's a '98 model. It was supposed to be complete & I had it shipped over. It definitely looks all original - no different wheel (although I may switch wheels) - I'll have to mock it up again & see if a front-wheel mounted speedo drive is the answer space wise (don't like that from an asthetic point of view though) Thanks
Harley numbers I have for a left and a right spacer for FLSTS are as follows. 43360-97 for L.H. According to the Mid West catolog 88 through 96 uses 40910-84A spacer which is 1.250 in length. Can't find **** for the 97 to 99 spacer size. I'll call a friend this evening. He sould have a parts manual for that model. I still belive you should be running an electric speedo. What's the ***le say? was it custom built? You should have no problem making a spacer.
a speed-o drive wheel hub will have a notch in it to drive the gear. yes the springer does have a drive gear on it (i dont know about the really new stuff 2000 up) if ya dont want the drive gear just machine up a new spacer for that side.

[/ QUOTE ] No, I bought JUST the springer front-end (hence no ***le) for this bike, so I can't say for sure, but I believe it to be a '98 - I bought it a while ago and only just recently got around to fiddling with it, so my memory of exact year is hazy. You're probably right though - the bike the front end came from originally probably did have an electric speedo, or at least one driven from the ******. [/ QUOTE ] I'm pretty sure all the front-wheel speedo drives fit into a notch on the brake rotor, not the hub. Consequently, pretty much all 11" rotors have that notch. There's even a notch on my rear rotor! So the existence of the notch does not convince me. That AND I can't believe Harley would put a front drive speedo on a springer front end, but what do I know... The FL part of FLSTS is a bit misleading in my mind too. The FL implies a traditional "heavy" swingarm frame (FLH family), but the FLSTS is a softail model. I think it's only FLSTS because it's the wide front end as opposed to the narrow FXSTS (Softail Springer). I guess when I get some time I can wander to the Harley stealer in New Market (45 min) & bring my axle & spacers to see what they've got - just being lazy I guess & hoping someone here had it readily available. I guess I was just hoping there would be a spacer. I 'spose I could fab one up. Even if it did originally come with a front drive speedo, I don't want to use that anyway (but then I'll know the exact size of the spacer to use!) and will likely use a rear-drive speedo kit I've seen (no provisions on the FXR ****** to drive a speedo). I had to machine a front speedo drive unit on a wide glide I put on a chopper. Bike had a turtle top ****** and an 80 front end. It was a pain in the *** but worked out fine. I had to modify the tab on the drive unit too and notch the end of the hub. Most of your aftermarket Harley parts catalogs will have the specs for the different drive units. If you don't have one I can email the specs.
