    Kevin,
I am sure that you have seen this shot.......but, I saw it on a HAMB/Rickster post and thought that I would drag it over here.

So that is the Clock? Was there more than one Clock? I read an article where Larry Watson said they used to cruise the Bellflower Clock back in the day. Still looks cool 50 years later.

I have featured Harvey's Broiler as a pivotal location in my new Novel, "The Last Rock and Roll Show" that I released last month.
I would like to organize a cruise at the new broiler in September if they are open...bring the book, possibly some live music. Maybe a charity event for some good HAMB related cause?? If anyone out there in So Cal. is interested in throwing their ten cents in on the idea I would like to hear it.

This is one of the worst thing I have ever heard I would go on Firday night and hang at Harvey's after cruising thru a couple of times and park for a coke & Fries and then go by Hody's in lakewood and then Hody's on the hill in long Beach ( 7th & PCH ) and Saturday I would go run down at Lions Dragstrip then cruise back thru Hody's to the A&W on Bellflower and then back to Harvey's for a Buger, Fries and Coke, before heading home about 1:00 am and feeling Great About everything I had done that day even the car club I was President of EXILES Car Club of Lakewood and now that I am over 60 years and I still have good Memorys ( between lapses lol )of those days and it brings a smile to my face. Harvey's you might be gone but you will never be forgotten by those of us who lived it.

Harvey's was my main hangout from 1959 to 1963 when I got my Draft Notice man I loved that place and the car hops were a knock out I did date one for a while and then when I went into the service and over seas you kinda of loose track what is happing back in the world but when you get home you always want to go back to were it all was happing. this was the place to be ( HARVEY's THE KOOLEST PLACE IN CAL ) I cant tell you how many lowering tickets I got pulling out of Harvey's onto Firestone Blvd thanks Downey P.D. lol .

Small update, The sign is all but done and ready to get back up on it's perch.
The complete foundation had to be dug out in order to remove a vent system that went under the entire restaurant The original terazo is still in place but a new foundation in the originals foot print will be getting poured right after the plumbers and the electricians do their part where the new grading is.
The New Bob's Disc is gonna rock! Neon-aluminum construction, A 3D Big Boy figure has been procurred.
Some of the original peices are on site for reconstruction. The Canopy has been cut down already, will go to the end of the back of the building when completed. I thought that we'd be further along by now, but it seems that time schedules are meant to be broken and it seems like they always are.
Stay tuned as more to follow in the coming weeks. The Broiler Will Return.

Short update: Per Jim Louder, The foundation is underway, the inground plumbing and electrical is happening and by friday 4/17=(C' Deuced's B-Day as well as the Broliers 51st ) The ajoining foundation which will **** up to what is left of the originals terazzo should be poured-weather permitting. So a rebirth on its original openning day 51 yrs later. :)
It may not seem like it, but some lumber will be onsite very soon and walls will be going back up before you know it and we may be under that canopy before summers out. (good thing this place is in a warm climate state)

The foundation is being poured on friday, We have all of the underground plumbing and electrical taken care of. Almost had a close call with the large sign. Seems that a driver on Firestone thought that "drive in coming soon" meant that he could drive up the curb Take out the light pole that is literally feet away from the sign that has been structurally restored and awaitiing its new signage. The lumber will be on the site next week and framing will begin and we'll see a rebirth soon.

By the way. Check out HAMBer Del Toros Book "The Last Rock And Roll Show"
It makes for a great read and features Harvey's Broiler as well as Bob's in it. Pretty cool because this guy lives all the way in Nashville!

I attended a panel at the California Preservation Foundation conference last week and Jim was one of the speakers on the panel. It was great to hear his story and enthusiasm for getting this place back up and running!

That is great to hear. I hope that everybody that attended the panel discussion got the jest of what it is taking to get this place back up.

Invited panelists included Mario Guerra=Mayor of Downey as well as Deputy City MGR Gil Livas, Jim Louder-Owner of Bob's Broiler and Adriene Biondo=Chair Emeritus LA Mod Com. I know that I left someone out:confused:.
Alan Hess-Author of Googie and Googie Redux which has the Broiler on the cover was ecstatic that this was actuall happening and was also glad to meet Jim.

Downey really has gone out on a limb here keeping their promise to get the Broiler Back to Broiling :D. Soon we all enjoy the fruits of this hu****ous effort!

Everyone at the discussion was thrilled with the effort being made to get Harvey's going again. The other panelist was Chris Nichols - who showed a great slide show of old LA area mid-century restaurants along with a bit of history for each one.

Really looking forward to having a chance to get a meal there when we're down that way on one of our road trips!

Great to have a HAMBer attend our panel discussion at the California Preservation Conference in Palm Springs last Saturday. All of you guys have been incredible supporting our efforts since the illegal demo, I can't thank you enough.

Jim was up in Turlock today picking up the 12 foot Bob's Big Boy statue that he purchased. Bob will be installed where the Fat Boy stood...AND will rotate! I'll see if I can post a photo of Bob in transit so you can all see.

  28. Adriene:Great to see you on here! We keep hearing about you and now your here,Welcome and know you have support in more than just so-cal.........H.A.M.B. rocks the Broiler
