Sorry Big Boy corp says "No Coke- Pepsi!"
    "No Chips Fries!"

  2. like that would stop me....................

  3. Sept 19 sounds OK to me. I'll be there.

As far as the other car guys wanting to do a cruise, why not? IMO, it would be better if they did one on the same night as the Broiler at another location. I remember when there was Lee's deal at the Broiler and the cruise-in at Friscos. It reminded me of the old days when we'd cruise Bellflower and the Broiler on the same night. That flat out RULED! I want to roll and see everybody's cars in motion.

So does it look like the will meet the Sept. 19 deal with no problems?
oh and did I mention, pics...pics...pics...

Man, with the rebirth of Cruising in Van Nuys (and probably other SoCal locations) and the restoration the the Broiler (and other locations) I'm going to have to bring a car down there and join in. I would have never imagined any of this five or more years ago.

What do you guys think about the Double Deck Burger part of the sign.
It resembles the art work that was submitted to the city dead on!
Jim has a sample of the terrazo and it too is dead on! Everyone is working hard at bringing the Broiler back to you guys. I hope that on the 2nd wednesday of the months to come, the guys from Van Nuys will cruise on over for a bite, 24hrs may be tossed around, not sure yet, but we'll see what transpires.

Kevin, sign looks good. In fact, the whole place looks great. The wife, 2 dogs and I just took a cruise over to the Broiler in the Wife's Chevy II wagon. It was a fun short cruise on a great night. I am really looking forward to opening night. Can't wait for a double deck burger, fries and malt.

That's a damn shame. Another piece of Americana gone down the drain. I remember reading some articles on the internet a year or so ago and I thought they were trying to save it?? Damn shame.

Ya need to read the last 50+ pages. They are saving it. The are right in the middle of rebuilding it as a Bob's Big Boy Broiler.

  12. This whole thing is unbelievable, you just don't hear about places like this being saved, let alone made bigger and better. every day some place a group of dedicated people are trying to save some landmark from their past, only to see it fall in the end and that new mall, school, parking lot, housing tract, or what ever gets built.
The fact that you all WON is fantastic and should inspire others to keep the faith and fight the fight. I am planning on coming down, maybe we could put together a cruise from the Central Valley that would be cool! "See You In September"

The Broiler is moving along, getting ready for windows drywall, and an interior soon. Some walkways still being poured and the ball is rolling very fast. Lots of action taking place. Can't wait till we get to use it. It's cool to be able to park under the canopy and be shaded on a Hi 90's day. Jim should be thanked for making this dream come come true.:D

Just like Steve Austin, "Gentlemen, we can rebuild him, we have the technology". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HofoK_QQxGc Seventies TV shows rocked, be nice to see it all finished with the lights on.

  20. Now the question will be "if they build it will you come"?
More than once a month on cruise nights.
It will take a lot of loyal customers for it to last this time.

It's funny that "phase" should come up. Early on the "Miss A's" and I adopted it with Re in front of it. The Johnie's Jeepster, Adriene's-late "Uncle Joe's" Camry and Analisa's "Licked" 05 Magnum all sport a plate frame with the slogan, Save Harvey's Broiler.com "Rebuild it and they will come".
Jim certainly hopes so as do all of the Coalition To Save Harvey's Broiler members as this is what we wanted to bring back to the families and friends.
Thank's for all of your support H.A.M.B. members we've needed for the past 31 mo's and will need forever.

    Well guys/dolls,
The Broiler is well on it's way. Many things that people don't notice are getting done, Spoke with Burny about the website, soon customers will be able to search history of the Broiler, Check out the menu, perhaps even do a virtual tour and even order shirts, pins and even Bobble head Bob's and banks.
If all goes well, it may be up & running before the doors open :) Keep checking back and I or others will post more as it happens.

  25. I'm getting goosebumps!
I can already hear the DJ spinning tunes in the parking lot....

  26. Hey Kevin,

I never did see the original building in person, but I was certainly familiar with it through photographs. Everything looks great.

Forgive me if this was already addressed, I may have missed it, but is the building contractor working from any of the original architectural plans or is it being built using entirely new plans?? I was just curious ... can't wait to see it finished!

GOOD DEAL!! That's a great thing to see this place is being saved!! And thanks Mazooma1 and others for the updated pictures. Up here where I live in Nor-Cal, we don't have any places like that. There are some smaller drive-in type resturants in surrounding areas, but none in our town. The closest thing we have is a resturant called Rene's that used to be an A&W. At least the awning to park your car under is still there.

Yes the architect is using both the Paul B. Clayton original supplied by The Coalition. Archion Architects drew plans as close to the original footprint that fall within current building and safety codes.

This is the 1st all new Drive In located in the Los Angeles County.
Toluca Lake runs one on the weekends from 5-10pm.
It too needs much more exposure.
When in town, plese excercise this Drive In option. It will be an experience:D.

  29. Kevin do you know, are they going to be using skates ala A.G. or hoofin it like Sonic?

There's a movie on my boys are watching called " Just can't wait" and I walked in the room as two of the characters were sitting on a bench talking. In the background is a lot of neon, and as they pan back, guess what's in the background? Johnie's Broiler.......
