Has anybody seen or heard of these "NEW" Fords?

  1. Hummm.....

    Very interesting point Larry.

Let's see what the "purists" have to say about that!

I would argue that no one has what could be called an "original" 40 body. I would love to see one that has no new patch panels, floor pans or a repop firewall. Parts like these routinely find their way into what is commonly called an "original" body. And there are plenty of these parts used every day that aren't a Ford licensed reproduction part.
I'm also curious as to what level of quality or workmanship all the naysayers are willing to settle for. It's impossible to beat the quality of good repro parts with pickling and patching. I just finished putting together my 40 pickup from new repro and original parts and it wasn't cheap but every new part I bought saved countless hours of dipping, blasting, cutting and welding and they new stuff will provide a service life that should surpass a "restored" piece by years. If I was going to do a coupe, I would get a sedan with a clean title and go to town with the Drake/Carpenter body in a heartbeat.

Why does anyone want a '40 Ford Coupe, or a '32 or '33, etc,? Well, I have to suppose they really like how it looks......what other motivating force would there be?

That being the case, WHY would you care in the slightest where , or how, a high quality reproduction came from?

Perhaps you are a "Purist"......."it's got to be REAl", whatever that means.

Perhaps you have one already and you are protective of it's monetary value and you fear a quality reproduction increases the 'supply' and lowers the demand, hence your pride and joy maybe depreciated a bit and you don't like that idea so much. And, of course, the prestige of having a scarce, but desirable, item may also be diminished slightly.

Then there are those who, for whatever reasons, cannot afford the "New" item. Some of those folks are ok with that...there are a LOT of things some of us can't afford..and we just accept the reality of that...and enjoy seeing the item anyway because it's attractive in some way.

But alas, there are those in the "can't afford it" group who are consumed with the unfortunate human lesser trait of ENVY! Their response is "by Gawd, if I can't afford it I'm going to criticize it and denigrate it and try to make it undesirable" and/or. "if I can't have it, nobody should have it".

  8. No one has said anything about how this complete repop body's indivdual parts are goiing to save so many previously unsavable rusty coupes. Look at what happened to the prices of rusty POS '69 Camaros after Dynacorn started offering complete steel bodies. Just get a rusty carcass..pop off the V.I.N. and install on the new body! Presto! Restored musclecar!! Do the same with one of these... Or just get one and leave it out in the rain for a while and sell it as a patina'd rust free original...... Now there's a thought!

Before everyone bashes me about the V.I.N. swap comment, please understand the US government sees all of these repop steel bodies as a "replacement part" when an old V.I.N. is attached to it. It comes down to.. Start with an old car and title and you have less titling problems than titling a completely over- the - counter car.

well....if they are anything like the 57 Chevy and Camaro new bodies...they are hardly "ready to paint".....unless you are building a rat rod. Everyone I have talked to has spent lots of labor getting them straight and ready for paint.

  12. Funny shit, reading this thread....I don't get the negativity.....say it's 20k with the front end....so it's not for everyone, but there are many rodders who do 'get it' who could afford to start a project with one of those bodies...these are the people it's aimed at.
I don't know what the Drake/Carpenter drama is all about but whoever did the hard yards and produced this beautiful thing deserves a medal
I love that bodystyle and in a more well heeled life I would build one in a flash.....and paint it deep black....and drive the bejesus out of it.
I bet I would never hear anyone ask if it was one of them damn 'repops'.

So, I will never be able to afford one in this life unless lotto smiles on me, but I think it's terrific all the same. Some of you boys could lighten up a bit...lifes too short.

Boy some of you guys worry about a lot of nothing.
If you don't like it, don't buy it, the end.
    No problems there.

quote "Perhaps you are a "Purist"......."it's got to be REAl", whatever that means."

The term purist when applied to a hot rodder is pretty funny, the whole idea is about changing the car. Many would call it bastardizing, or ruining the car.

Certainly the accepted idea is to modify the car otherwise you'd be a restorer.
So to complain that something is not "original" on this forum is pretty funny, and more than a little disingenuous.
