Has anyone seen or heard from Polisher in the last year or so? He has not been on since 2008. I tried sending mails and messages to no avail. Getting kind of worried.

The website is still up, his workplace is still listed in the yellow pages, but given his last post, I don't see how he could still have survived. What a shame-he really knew his stuff and his polishing book is a real gem.

I searched everywhere and please God I hope we're all wrong.

5 Window I read the post and I did not know. Heart just sank. I just did not know and he never said a word to me. How did I miss that post?

He helped me a ton with some things a few years ago and I wanted to let him know how it all turned out and to ask a few more questions.

I found this but couldn't come up with anything else...:(

"On Saturday 30th July, 2005, I arrived in Belfast, Maine, where I met the previous owner Steve Clarke. Steve owned his own polishing and chroming facility (English Custom Polishing) and had his own line of metal polishes. Steve had already used some of his skills to polish the bike. Steve introduced me to my new bike and we shared a few drinks. He kindly allowed me to stay overnight at his home and the following day I set off on the ride to Newark, New Jersey. I'm sorry to say that Steve has since passed away following a battle with cancer but his wife, Lin, is still running English Custom Polish."

I used to print off some of his posts to put in my HAMB folders.
Better than my magazine collection by far.
It's obvious to me that if I don't log on for a day or two,I'll miss a lot of news and info, and I had no idea that he wasn't here anymore.
I only know a couple of HAMBers personally, but this place does feel like a really big family.
    So thanks to Polisher,and RIP.

  12. Sadly I think Ryan needs to add another "Member Emeritus". He was very helpfull to many on the board.

    Yeah...it sure seems that way.
I tried to find a death notice or some additional info on the web but came up with a big zero.
Maybe I was searching down the wrong roads or something but I tried...

I didn't have personal contact with "Polisher" but it was obvious that he was a quality HAMBer. He seemed to like helping people.
Really too bad this went unnoticed for so long. :(

Makes me wonder how many more unfortunately fall thru the cracks.

  14. Also, I just did a search for 286merc, another old HAMBer from the early days. It shows he has not been online since 07? I wonder if we lost him?

We're thinking along the same lines.
I actually looked for 286 last month!
I did find that he was posting on a different site later than that but then he stopped there as well.
I PMed with him a few times way back when I joined. Nice guy.
IIRC his wife is actually from Nfld...

I don't know his real name so I couldn't look for additional info on Google or whatever.

Theres a lot of good people who have just gone away when you think about it.
I'm gonna start having a look around thru the members list when I'm not busy...

I sent a PM to the boss to check on this. Have not heard back yet.

Polisher is/was more than a member to me. One of the most unselfish people on here. I sat last night and watched the videos off of the website again. Hearing his voice made me smile. Teared up some, but I smiled.

He is/was (always will be to me) an Alliance member. And I am not giving up until I hear confirmation.

I am not doubting anyone and no disrespect, but dammit I just am having a hard time accepting this one. And I hope there are not more that have left us and we did have the opportunity to acknowledge. 286merc as well.

I started typing this last night and waited... but will post it up....

Steve did an awful lot for us here and most of us never knew he was sick. He was an Alliance Vendor and all around great HAMBer

He took the time to give secrets to his business and his way of earning a living for free. Never even asked for you to buy or use his products. (Which by the way are the absolute baddest on the planet.) http://www.englishcustompolishing.com/

Would send out his updated 'book' he never really wanted to take the time print even though suggested and almost yelled at for. He should have. He would send it to anyone who sent him an email for free.

He just wanted everyone’s things to shine and to learn do it right, so it lasted. He got that across to me anyway. I learned and learned why's and how's, ins and outs. His damn secrets he just couldn't keep to himself. Pretty amazing guy to do that.

Steve I am having a drink to you and thanks for the education and friendship. You will always be ringing in my ears when polishing in a new part... 'You're not done or ready to move on to the next step until there are no more pits or scratches, keep polishing I see things in the picture! No! Stop and go back a step, you're still not done!" LOL.

Taught about the finer points on chemical reaction and why to never use this or that. And that a little of the "expensive" stuff is cheaper in the long run that mass quantities of cheaper products.

Steve Clarke, Polisher, Sir, you are and will always be missed.

Like I said. I hope to hell I am wrong! I hope to hell we are all wrong.

    Wow,

I just read through a bunch of his posts, it seems the wealth of information and trade secrets are falling away.

Anyone have a copy of his polishing book/guide?

I've got a copy in my tech files. PM me your email addy and I'll forward it to you.

Polisher was a great guy and was eager to share his knowledge. With the length of time that's elapsed since he's posted, I'm more than a little emabarrased that his name hasn't been brought up sooner, and I'm as guilty as anyone............:(

I have the booklet as well I believe the latest version he sent out. It is in English though. LOL. Real English. :)

Searching files now to find the latest one I have. Maybe the Boss can be the keeper of it or we can find an archive spot. A ton of info in it.

  24. The last I heard about 286merc was that his wife was in poor health. I tried PM'ing him through three different boards with no response; I only knew him as Carl, and that he was living in New Hampshire, so I never did manage to trace him. With his last name I might have better luck now.

  25. Up there^^^^^^^

  26. ^^^^ That's what I'm sayin'....:)

I've got an address & phone number now that I believe is probably him, but I'm headed back to work now for the next 12. If someone wants to try it earlier PM me & I'll give you the info.

Man this is a tough one...We all know there is an end to the run we have here, but never seem to be able to believe it when that time comes. Sometimes the people who seem to be the most willing to help, to go out of the way to lend a hand or give thier experience to those in need are the ones who never want to "bother" anoyone with thier own problems. I know people like this...I'm guilty of it myself...it is really hard at times to open up and tell even ones closest friend or family that something is wrong, be it health, emotion, daily life, whatever. Don't want to trouble someone else with our own problems...I know, this doesn't sound right, it doesn't sound fair, but it is how some people are.

It does suck when you find out that a friend or acquaintance has fallen ill or worse yet passed away and you didn't know anything about it. DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP. Just realise some people, even though it isn't right or fair, just do not tell some of these things to anyone. It is selfish, and we know that, but it really seems right to the ones who do it as they do not want to bother others with thier own problems. I hope no one takes this personally or as a slam to anyone reading or posting in this thread. I'm guilty myself of having health problems and not sharing it with anyone...not even my wife. I always say it's nothing...I'm fine...but sometimes I'm wrong. I need to realise that others WANT to know...it's not like they need to know but as a friend...hell human being...they really are concerend and truely care. I'm trying to realise this...that is why I'm posting this now. After reading about people who do not know how someone that is part of this wonderful HAMB family could either fall ill or pass away and have it go unnoticed...well this is how. I'm not well known here I'm sure, but if I was and I passed away, I know for sure my wife would not have a clue nor a second thought about posting it on the HAMB to let my HAMB family know I died...I'm on a couple other foprums as well, and those would also be without notice. The only thing is if someone who lives close by or is in contact with me on a regular basis and is a HAMB or on a board I'm on, they might post a notice, if not I'd slip away unnoticed to alot of memebers who know me in this wondeful world of the internet.
I'm very sad to have read this about polisher, and it only makes me realise that much more about how much someone can impact many people without even realising those people care. If it is true, and Polisher has passed away....RIP my friend. Thanks for all you have done and shared with us. Thanks to those who cared enough to bring this to light.....

    Sincerely Al Larsen

  28. This sounds silly but a person should put this type of info in your will. Omline subscriptions, message board logins etc............might help your family once you are gone.

Something I heard about not too long ago..

Store all your online places you go, and all of your passwords.

I know nothing about it, but it is there if someone wants to look into it.
