Neither had I, until I read the Napa Valley Adult School catalogue which came in the mail yesterday. It seems pretty cool. Basically, it's powdered silver mixed with water and another inert ingredient. You make a mould, fill it with the clay and fire it. I think it's predominantly used for jewelry, but would make a killer custom insignia or badge for our hot rods. I just got to thinking after reading some great tech posts lately such as the cast aluminum H.A.M.B. star and the guy who made hubcaps using bondo as the mould (ingenious). My car is so far away from completion that decorative trinkets shouldn't even occupy my mind. I just thought that this could be an interesting possibility for y'all Hambers out there.
I missed the Bondo mold hubcaps. Never heard of Precious Metal clay, but have heard of metal filled epoxy..
I've had a chance to play with the stuff (wife/girlfriend makes jewelry) at a jewelry making show we went to in Las Vegas last year. after it's fired (they used a pencil torch), it is metal. it can be sanded, and polished. It's kind of sticky, but it can be rolled out flat or pushed into a mold. It would be good to reproduce an insignia in a horn ****on. It's cool stuff, but kinda pricey to be used in the quan***y it would take to make something. http://www.silver-clay.com/nmclay-bin/shop1.pl/page=artclay.htm/SID=PUT_SID_HERE 10 grams is $15.35 I did hear that there is a version that is made with aluminum instead of silver, I'm still looking for it, it should be cheaper.
