Many years ago, my dad left me this tool box as one of the few things he gave me. Outside of this tool box, i never seen another one like it. Now he back in the 50s, he was a air plane mechanic at an Air Force base in So Cal and i was wondering if it was an old military item. Does anyone here have any info on this tool box. It is painted military green.
Yeah, they were sold to the government. I have one that my dad got in the 60s. I keep it in my Chevy II.
Iwant to give it to my Grandson to go with his 29 roadster but don't know if i should paint it black or leave it like it is.
Yep, that could well be a military tool box, I have a similar one that I keep chain saw "accessories" in. When I got out of the Army in the sixties a similar box came home with me. They are sturdy.
Leave it. The color has deep history. You might squeeze that one handle and reinsert it in the correct position. Super gift! You are a good man!
They are super nice boxes...heavy duty. Really heavy when loaded though. Very cool that you want to pass it to you Grandson! I'd leave the history on it...it's real patina!
I have one like this. I got it from my Grandpa when I was 15 to keep my starting tool set together. I still have it with the tools I accumulated in my younger years. And yes, the box's are quite sturdy.
I had one in the trunk of my 57 chevy when it got stolen, never saw it or the car since. I do have this different one though
