I was wondering what his thoughts were on the HAMB drags? Was he happy with it? He seemed like a really cool guy, he came down and talked to me a little. I just hope the outcome was what he expected.
This is a good question, I think they were pleased, they were really friendly to us on Friday night. They took the time to apologize to us for a drunk local that was causing trouble. They let everyone camp out Saturday also, we didn't, but they made an announcement that people could if they wanted and that they'd dummy lock the gate so people could get out. I'm also curious what the status of that lawsuit is.
With as many people as the HAMB has, surely we could help the guy out somehow. There are a lot of people on here that are members and lurkers that have connections that could be beneficial in this type of situation. And if MoKan were to become the official site of the drags? Hmmmmm.......
Apparently some small time home builder is wanting to get the track shut down so he can develop the area. I'll see if I can find a link.
Found this on their website messageboard.------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ An update. Springfield real estate developer Bill Beall vs. Mo-Kan Dragway, Carl Blanton, et al, was set for trial on June the 4th. We heard from our lawyers today that the judge had postphoned the trial because he had to attend some sort of training. No new date has been set. I'll let you know of the new date as soon as I have it. If you have any questions, please ask me in person at the track.
Carl was great and he had a blast at the drags. I think we all showed them as good of a time as they showed us... He told me he hasn't seen a nice group of guys in a long time... That's just HAMB folks I guess. Weird too, cuz we are supposed to be a bunch of assholes. As far as MoKan being the home of the HAMB Drags, I really like that idea but haven't not really given it a whole lot of thought yet...
U was on my best behavioR. A comibination of heat stroke and fear that Ryan would beat me up! It did occur to me, and we all even talked about the fact that it was the most tame (and most fun) drag experience I could recall. Usually there are a bunch of idiots getting real drunk and starting something. Had fun. Ryan's my hero.
I have heard a lot of guys that said they would like to see it move from state to state, which is understandable. I just hate to see the little guys left out cause that is why the small strips dry up.
I keep thinking about this whenever situations pop up like this lawsuit. With the thousands of members on here, the HAMB COULD become quite an effective lobby group for things like saving MOKAN, etc.
If Carl could tell us what he needs to fight this suit, maybe we really could help in some small way. Ryan, do you have a hot-line to him? Has he confided in you what he needs?
Mid America Raceway in Wentzville MO has been having the same problem over the years. Wentzville is close enough to St.Louis for a daily commute, so all those City People are dying to get homes out "in the country". I have heard rumours several times over the last 10 yrs or so, that pressure is being put on the owners to Shut the place down because of the noise affecting the nearby homes. Assholes knew it was there before they bought their houses....
that fucking sucks... same thing happened to half moon bay dragstrip, since its closing sometime before i was born (76), people have been trying to re-open it through petitions...but the *noise pollution* and *traffic* it will cause has always been a problem.... the faggit assed yuppies moving into the area, with their MASS PRODUCED ikea homo furniture, DESIGNER fag shoes with turtle neck peck huggers, and CUTE BEAMERS with *man tampon* dispensors have taken over.... next in the line of MANHOOD raping are the MAN thongs... we are fucked!!
There is a benifit race at the track each year to raise money to fight the lawsuit. It is difficult to fight big money and the fellow who is trying to close MOKAN has a lot of money. I would like to see the drags at MOKAN again for obvious reasons. I will do anything I can to help. I really enjoyed the day and the night. I am concerned about having a one day drags in May or June as we get a lot of rain at that time of year. Rain at a car show is a minor problem but rain at the drags is terminal. The weather the day of drags was unusually hot and dry but it is hot and dry here in August. Since the weekend of the drags it has been perfect summer weather. Highs in the low 80's and nights in the 60's. I think you should follow the same schedule and go for the weekend after the start of Bonneville. The weather can not be worse than it was this year and it could be much better. I like the fact that we can be at the track for the test and tune on Friday night and if the schedule is the same next year we might have Sunday for a rain date.
I say we do a spring race at Mo-Kan next year.......I WILL be there next year. And why not support a track that is losing it's gig???try whatever we can
Man I'll do whatever it takes. That was a great time !!! Even if it rains:A bad day at the drags is better than a good day at work.Good people, good hospitality, good weather, what more can you ask for? I'M THERE NEXT YEAR FOR SURE!!!!!!!! DAN
We need to start sumthin to help the old boy out. I hear this developer just tries to tie things up in court and keep the money flowing....trying to tap our hero. The guy has been there since 1962. Screw progress!!!!!!!
Carl seems to be optimistic about the future. I was there yesterday for the Labor Day Outlaw Nitro Altered show that was postponed due to rain last weekend. He announced that the altereds would be a part of the Labor Day tradition from now on. I hope he's right.
