Dont worry, it happens to all of us. Sometimes you have to make some little sacrafices to get the bigger things you all want. Like for example instead of spending 6-7 dollars on your jumbo jack and super sizing your lunch get the 3-5dollar meal. Figure it out, 2-3 dollars saved a day for lunch, thats 10-15bucks in 5days. And,if you take a lunch to work instead of buying everyday thats more than 25bucks a week. Sure you not going to get those lake pipes in a week, but every week you will get that much closer and on top of that you will be doing your health a favor. Granted its ok to go all out everyonce in a while but belive me it does help and thats just the tip of the iceberg. If there is a will there is a way....

If it's a persistent problem, it sounds like you need to make more money Bro. My family was/is in the same boat, but we cranked it up. I'm working two jobs and my wife is working three. Not easy, but I feel like the master of my own destiny this way.

I agree... managing the money is key too. Doesn't matter how much you make if you're foolish with it.

Go to an island and have an illigitamate family... What's your point.:D

There's always a way around this kinda thing. Organize your income with your spending monthly then figure out what you have left for yourself. Put that into a savings account or lunchbox in a safe place for Gods sake don't tell the wife (unless you have an understanding one) at the end of the month tally up what you have saved and use half of that on getting something nice for the wife and keep saving the rest. In a couple of months I'm sure you'll do it.
Or you can be creative and auction off something cool of yours.
There's always the sperm bank, medical research guinnie pig or prostitution....it's your call.

I know the feeling. I have been out of work for over a year due to health issues due to work. Of course LnI is fighting my claim. It took them a YEAR to get me a court date for my appeal! Ive sold ALOT of car parts I didn't want to sell, sold my pickup, parted out my OT dream car (that was hard). The wife and I have became experts at saving money on things. But, we haven't lost the house or the wife's car and that makes it worth it. Hopefully after my appeal things will get better, but they could deny it again... Such a screwed up system. I have a couple OT cars that need little stuff, to be drivable and Ive just had to let them sit. I could have came up with the money but right now toys just arent as important as they use to be.

So, I just need to get my wife to work three jobs? Seriously, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only broke SOB on here. I'll probably wind up selling my truck for way less than it's worth this year just to put a roof on the house. I've been paying on a ruptured appendix since I was 20. I'll be 36 this year. If I keep going at this rate, I'll pay it off when I'm 45. On the bright side, at least I'm alive.

As Tman would say, and I'd agree... Look up Dave Ramsey. If he's not your cup of tea, seek out someone like him.

When I was younger I had to sell off all my cars. It was either lose the house or lose the cars. I have had to sell off eveything a few times just to keep a roof over my families heads. I am a lot older now and the kids are now off on their own and I was able to get back into cars, but I would in a heart beat sell them off to keep a roof over my head. It sucks sometimes. Here's to hoping the economy gets better and hoping the best for everyone

  12. I still can't tell if I have bad luck because something always comes up when I have the money, or if I'm lucky that I had just enough cash when the problem occured.

Glass half full/empty type thing. Broke is a state of mind :)

EXACTLY!!! I have worked for a fair wage for the last 20 years and only laid off for two weeks. It just seems like there's always a place for the money to go. Some more important than others at any given time. Just glad I'm keeping up, huh?

They all work to pay for gas and insurance. They really don't have enough time to work enough hours to cover repairs, the boys are in high school. I told my son last weekend his next set of tires are on him. The rear treads are scratched off and the fronts have the outside edges worn off. He couldn't argue that he's been driving like an ass.

The vast majority of HAMBers, no doubt, know the feeling.
I remember many weekends staying home when I was in my 20's and even into my early 30's having to stay home while my friends would go out. I was broke on occasion but didn't want to tell them, because I didn't want to be their charity case. I know they'd say..."oh, come on, we'll buy you dinner and some beers"...
Truly wonderful friends, but a steak and cold beer never tastes good when you don't earn it.
My pets got fed first, I got fed second...that's just the way it had to be until I could get my business going.
I wouldn't change a thing. It was a very worthwhile time in my life.
There's no progress without struggle and there's no pride without paying your bills and being responsible.

  18. That's an awesome bit of words you put together there. Thank you.

I feel you 100%, Wicked50Coupe. A few years back my youngest daughter got horribly ill and I ended up selling everything but my DD and my house. Thank God for the Ronald McDonald House or I would have been is worse shape. The thing is that we got through it, and I am slowly getting all the play crap I love back. It all comes and goes in waves. Keep your head down and fight. It will get better.

I've been real fortunate not to have anyone falling ill or anything, I couldn't imagine the greif. I'm just whining about the monthly grind, I'd better shut up because I really don't have any misfortune - just lack of fortune.:)

You know what, Amigo? You pose a good point. No matter how bad we have it someone always has it worse!

At least we have jobs and can make ends meet. "It could be worser" my old buddy Abundio used to say.

I still feel you on the monthly grind. It BLOWS!

So can I chime in too.
Got some money but the job that provides it has me traveling out of the country 1.5 - 2 weeks each month.
Still cant get a damn thing done even though I can buy parts.

Same story here in England. Totally and utterly pennyless once I have paid all the bills. Kids are on holidays this week - hate to think of all the dosh my wife is spending! My mercury is always last on the list for any spare cash! Even gas money is a struggle!

  26. I've had my car since '96... I was 32, got it running in 2008...I was 44 years old, I don't see bodywork and paint happening for at least another 3-4 years...

The good stuff in life doesn't generally come effortlessly or cheap. But one's perspective can determine whether it is hard to do or not.

    I know how you feel

Lost my business in November of 2009 and then found out I had Cancer in April of 2010. Had my right eye removed due to the Cancer in June 2010.

Just cannot find anything. At least I am busy with driving for the Cancer Society.

Just hope after all the tests I have had over the last two days, things work out.

Also Hope to see my 38 Ford 1/2 ton get done soon as promised..

I'll chime in here too. I make more money right now than I ever have, and have less money now to play with than I ever have. Every day necessaties are expensive.
We've recently started working on a Dave Ramsey-style lifestyle, but it's gonna take a bit. Tax refund was nice, but it goes to pay for the little one's private school this year- her education is worth more than gold to me, and I don't have any confidence in our local public school system.

But, I'm MAJORLY blessed over many folks. I have a recession proof job if there ever was one, the wife has a job, and most importantly we're all healthy and happy. So what if the '46 never sees a nice paintjob, or I don't ever have the cash to buy that Corvette I want, or the Studebaker never is finished.
I spent an hour today driving my '46 down dirt roads with the most beautiful 5 year old girl in the world sitting beside me, drinking Dr. Pepper out of one of those little glass bottles. We stopped at a 1890's general store still in operation, picked flowers from a field of clover, seashells from a lakeshore, and waved at people doing lawn work. I didn't have any money in my pocket, but I promise you I was the richest man in the world today, and I wouldn't trade my life with any billionaire alive.

I just hope my little one treasures and remembers these days like I do and will when she grows up.
