It seem we would not see you at theese events this winter.http://www.angelfire.com/mn/icerace/ When I meet my wife to be 24 years ago we worked the Saint Paul winter carinavel Ice race - the high for the day -36F plus wind chill ( there was straight line winds. I knew she was a keeper when two wwek later we worked the Forest Lake Mn event - it was colder that day. So your 36F temp is not bad at all. By the way mrs jalopy and I have been married nearly 21 years now.
3 degree's this morniong and we got about 3 inches of new snow. I'm getting tired of this shit. It never gets warm enough for the old snow to melt. the shop was about 45 this morning and going to take a while to warmup. So much for global warming, what a bunch of horse shit.
it was 9 below here this morning, i work nights, and i walk to work. 3 blocks. even i got a little cold this morning.
Just went down to the gas station in the Falcon. Its about 25 out ,and the tunnel ram dont really like those cold starts.I am gunna use it to haul sheetrock all day (im doing some remodling on my house). The Ranchero looks kinda funny hauling sheetrock with a straight axle frontend and tunnel ram sticking through the hood ,and some guys are affraid to let their hotrod get wet.I always get strange looks at Home Depot in it...
Its -5 F right now in Basalt Colorado, wouldn't be bad but we are living in our converted greyhound bus at the moment.......it's a bit fresh!!
19 here this morning. 40StudeDude, agreed. We had some fairly humid days a while back, low 40's temps, some wind, working outside it was cold. JusJunk, your gas heater sounds good. I have gas at the house only it's at the wrong end. I really would have liked to install a gas heater, but it's a long run of pipe and I'd have to go under about 28' of cement one way and maybe 150' of pipe the other way and I ain't crawling underneath winter or summer. The gas heater in the garage sure sounds good. About 60'-70' of pipe would get gas into the garage. Lake Havasu . . . that's where you go inside in April, turn on the A/C and come out in October isn't it? Down in Laughlin - right up the river from Havasu - it was in the mid-50's a few weeks back. Heading back from breakfast at the Harrahs buffet (best in town) we saw runners, joggers and walkers bundled up like it was about to snow. Just depends on what you're acclimated to.... <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
I was in Florida a couple of years ago for a week. The weather got down to about 60 F and there were people wearing winter jackets! I to have to admit i was wearing pants and not shorts that day but i still was rocking short sleeves. Wisconsin makes you pretty tolerant of weather i guess it's like 30 F i think right now. We are getting around 6 inches of snow today though which is good for going out and doing donuts in!
Dang, were havin a heat wave here. It's up to 18 degrees F. Were even back up to an expected 6 hours and 32 minutes of daylight for today (YAY).
I thought it was cold here (-15F this morning) until I saw that report from Russia. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
It was below zero yesterday and being a mail man and all, I will say it wasn't all that bad. I walked around in it for about 5 hours and seemed to do alright. It was my bike ride home that sucked. With the wind chill at -25 with a head wind just seemed like a 10 min. trip took an hour. 32 degrees would be sweatshirt weather here. CheaterJack
It was -15 when I walked down to the neighborhood cafe for breakfast this morning...a little brisk, but it was nice and sunny. It does take a little while in the fall for my blood to thicken up, but I enjoy cold weather - it makes up for those humid 100 degree days in July. They say there are places with more extreme weather than Minneapolis, but no one lives there.
-19F here this morning. The coldest I have seen it here was -28F + the wind was blowing. I don't mind the cold... it's when the wind start blowing is when it is a bitch. The thing that sux here is in the summer it gets to be +95-100F with 100% humidity so we get the worst of both seasons in my opinion. For some weird reason I still like it here. Before I had a heated garage it always seamed like your car would end up with a leaking water pump or something that required you to lay out in the cold all day to get the darn thing going. Of course I don't work well with gloves on so I always bordered on the edge of frostbite.
It was 46 this morning when I let the dogs out for a pee and went for the newspaper. I thought that was cold, but you guys are the true winter heros. I just can't imagine ...
Dang Jay, you wear more clothes at 34F than I do at zero! It was 4f here this morning but no wind so not too bad. My water heater died on New Years Eve, luckily Lowes was open on New Years day so we had hot water before noon on New Years! Good luck....
just got home from the 1st swap o the year its -17 ... drove there on square tires for a block or so..... not cold enuf so that when ya spit it freezes and cracks when it hits the ground .. but close.....don't wanta wiz outside today scored 3- 5.5x16 wheels with good modern radials a perfect pair of 60 olds tailites the aluminum generator bracket the guy forgot to give me a year ago that went with all the hot flat head stuff.. some little chrome gee gaws... some tools needing replacements and a new superman pedal car for the grandkids all loaded up and toted to and from the truck without a hat or gloves... i don't love it when its this cold but i know it won't be here long then 20-30 degree weather seems quite warm
Not sure how cold it is here- but working on the cars during the winter is out of the question. We have no garage..... and we heat our house with wood and have had 2 minor chimney fires this week. Thinking about going outside with some aerosol can soon!
wisconsin -12 windchill -30 fuckin cold i went to my shop this morning after leaving the heat off all night there was a ring of ice in the goddamn toilet the water was continually moving thank god or the whole thing woulda froze, try shittin on a block of ice once...(on a side note the guy you saw on the harley was probably my buddy ross he is from the u.p. and now lives in arizona, he is always laughing at the guys down there that say it is to cold to ride, and he is just in a hoodie...he is an asshole) go packers
Let us pray for those who suffer the cold today..... "Our Favre, Who art in Lambeau, Hallowed be thine arm. Thy bowl will come, It will be won. In Phoenix as it is in Lambeau. And give us this Sunday, Our weekly win. And give us many touchdown passes. But do not let others pass against us. Lead us not into frustration, But deliver us to Superbowl XLII. For thou art the MVP, the best of the NFC, and the glory of the Cheeseheads, now and forever. Go get'em, Amen."
I pulled the chunk out of the rearend of the Falcon yesterday morning outside in my driveway at around daylight and it was about 20 degrees with the wind blowing my shirt up .I had to swap the gears in it to 4.10 for the "Thaw" next month ( the pains i go through to go faster). It was so cold that the wrenches were stinging my fingers and the 90 weight in the rearend looked like STP from the nip outside...
You reminded me of my 1962 Falcon six banger and the experience I had in Topeka, Kansas. In early 1970, it was so cold that after I finally got the Falcon started, it didn't have enough guts to turn the ring gear through the weather enhanced viscosity of the gear oil. Stalled the engine out over and over.
Heatin' with gas? Guessing you have natural gas in your area, Jay. I haven't completed my move to Kingston, Nevada, and I'm already missing natural gas. Only propane available in the middle of Nevada. I'll be replacing my gas water heater with an electric model this Spring, plus put an air-tight woodburner in the living room; wood prices are super fair and it helps support the local economy. Electric baseboard heaters in my office and the bathrooms are scheduled. The new shop will also get an air-tight wood burner. At 6700 feet on the east side of the Toiyabe range winter temps in the 20s-40s are the norm. Add to that the wind coming out of Kingston Canyon in the afternoon at Cal-Tech wind-tunnel speed and keeping warm becomes a career. Hoping you and your sweetie can come up for a visit sometime this year, maybe on the way to The Salt! Mike
