I have a C4 that was rebuilt with extra clutch disc . The problem is that the input shaft will not turn at all no matter what gear or neutral it is in .
I paid $400 for the trans from someone in Tenn. He did refund my money and told me to keep the trans . I want to use this in my 50 Ford Tudor with a 289 or 302 I have .
I figured I would try here before going to the main board .
Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong ? I am not a auto trans guy so please keep that in mind but I will build a 500+ hp engine with no problem so I can do mechanics with no problem and have tons of tools 1 !

    Thanks,
    Jim

Definitely sounds like the clutch pack is too tight as nothing should be 'engaged' without fluid pressure and the input shaft should turn (I am ***uming the trans is out of the car?).
Sorry I have to ask, we're talking about the input shaft, not the stater support as the stater support does not turn. Also does the output shaft turn?

It's the small shaft that slides into the front pump . I am going to look more into it over the winter to see what was done . I had a friend tell me that the C4 isn't that hard to rebuild so I am going to take a stab at it .

Jeff I am going to check into the link you gave me to see if I can find out what is wrong with the trans .
    Thanks Again ,
    Jim
