Hot Rods Have you ever built a hot rod with fenders and then later take them off? or vice versa?

  1. There is a unwritten rule that say's you must take a break for rehydration often when you are building a hot rod. :D HRP

Late 1950s ,Being the law said I was supposed to have fenders{I hated the look of fenders on a hot rod}.
I had to do something=most Miami Cop's were very good guys, but like most groups of any real size, there are a bad apple or 2. The good one's didn't give any mind to frender laws, much more things needed to be taken care of.
But early on in my first hot rod build,I did think about fenders some.

I had a set of 28 "A" fenders/not very nice ones dents an cracks an some rust. As an idea, I taped out some ways of cutting them up into custom hot rod frenders=kind of batman weird too only be as little as pos.=chopped up on side front an rear. Wow,not good,I tied more cut a way even, but never got better. Gave up on those. Tryed to get a way with none, but too things** made me make a set of temp MC type frenders made from spair tire covers cut about in 1/2.
I made some brackets that held to brake backing plates by nuts< so I could take them off EZ.
Bolt went through backing plate with a lockwasher an nut holding it in place,it stuck out 5/8"more so MC type brackets went on ,an another lock washer an nut to hold them on.
I still hated them, but at least I could remove then EZ.
Had to be on my rod for Fla. State Inspection*=one time only a years, and again for the time we had a Jackbutt cop* asigned to my part of town(Coconut Grove} for a short time.< he was a prob. an tri
ed to give tickets about anything at all.

There are no photos of the chopped up "A" fenders, but 2 photos have survived of MC fenders, that were on when I had my Y-block out for new cam an head mill along with other odds n ends, like removing the rollbar an adding a better seat.
Didn't take many pics any way,an most of them have got lost over time.
I'm happy at few pics have made it into the 2000's. hrz1.jpg
