No, not because of what they were going to do with it but just because they were a dick, I've told them I would not sell to them specifically.

I did this just recently. I had a 1964 sportster that was built into a wold chopper in 1978, it made the cover of street chopper magazine april 1979. and had survived all these years with only a seat and handle bar change. Well, I've been laid off and bills are still coming in so I put it up for sale. I had a guy come out twice to look at it, the second time he came out he ahd a friend with him, and they were discussing how he could cut the back half off of it and " do it up right with tube" and make a much better bike out of it....well, needless to say I sent the guy away. Hell, he could just buy a stock bike and build his bike no way was I gonna sell this survivor to someone who is going to cut it up. That weekend a guy from Wisconsin contacted me about the bike. They have several 70's choppers and digger style bikes and wanted to add mine to thier collection. I feel a lot better now knowing the bike will be preserved as it was built back 30+ years ago. So I say, there are some things that are meant to be sold to the right type of person.

I had this up for sale for a bit, thought I was gonna need a big down payment for a house, ended up moving so it came off the market. Had it real cheap to. One girl looked at me and said "If I had the money to buy it I'd paint it primer grey" I told her to walk away, just walk away...

If it is that nice, you have priced it accordingly and that should keep the "ruiners" away. If they pay your price, and still trash it , you sold it too cheap

No. As long as I get what I wanted thats all that matters. Last fall I had a O/T Chevelle for sale the first call came about 30 minutes after I put it on Craigslist. The guy shows up and argues its not a "REAL" chevelle but a Malibu. He writes down the VIN and said I'll call you back if the VIN says its a "Chevelle" While he's leaving another guy shows up to look at it. Second guy recognizes the first guy's truck (they are both from the same small town). Second guy comments on the first guy and asks how much he offered. I told him and he said I'll pay you asking price just so first guy can't have it and make a street stock out of it. I said SOLD !!! An hour later first guy calls and says he'll take it. Sorry buddy its gone.

  8. Ditto. I might not agree with the plan. BUT, it's HIS now. So, do whatever makes you happy. Just don't tell folks you bought it like that when they say how awful it looks;):D:rolleyes::eek:

Yes. I had a mint 35 Chev standard 3w body and frame, with good wood and perfectly straight sheet metal. A guy wanted it to cut into a dirt car and I talked him out of it (more of less).

Agreed. If somebody hands me the cash they can drive the car into the street in front of my house and set it on fire. It's not my car anymore. If I cared about it I wouldn't sell it. I guess that's why I still own my first car....... 43 years in February.

Not really. Sold a mustang I did a lot too when I was 19 to a 16 year old and figured he'd put it into a tree. I was wrong-it was a telephone pole. Totaled the car. I was a bit upset but I knew it was going to happen and sold it to him anyway. Cash talks, if you're selling it then you need the money more than the car.

Had a guy not sell me a 30 pickup because I was "on a them hot rodders" haha. It was rusting away in the middle of a field. Been there forever and could barely see it. He didn't even let me get more then "I was wondering about that model A-" and shunned me away haha. Guess i shouldn't have shown up wearing a MOON t shirt :?

Ya know, I had a friend who used to have really long hair in highschool. When I came home from the Navy, he had lost most of it and was going with the dreaded "comb over". I'll tell you what I told him. Let it go. You had a good run. Just let it go.:D

Well, I have sold lots of stuff. But typically it's the person not their reason or dream. I am open minded enough to let others have their dreams or vision. Even if I want to violently throw up at them. IF I've decided to sell something I've already broken emotional ties to it. If somebody rubs me the wrong way or is a douchebag then I just walk back in the house. Same goes for parts, I give alot of stuff away. But if you are a Dick just go away.

I have not been that picky yet but have went to look at a few cars and been turned down for what I wanted to do , Infact just the other day I went to look at as advertised a 1957 chevy 2 door hard top 210 , all orignal runs and drives 3000 dollars , well when I got there first thing I seen is it sat funny futher investigation showed it was on a different frame then poped the hood and it had a 350 Olds motor in it from the late 70's all the side windows were plexi glass and when I shut the door a huge piece of bondo fell of the rear quarter as round as your head and 2 inches thick , the trunk lid was welded shut and the floors were fixed with wood ... anyways I said kinda as a joke well I guy I could make you an offer and fix it up for a demolation derby car , and the guy turned red and shouted are you stupid this is a road ready all orignal classic what was you expecting for 3 grand , I said nothing more then what you advertised and orignal 57 chevy I've owned atleast 12 of them and never seen an orignal plywood floor in one and never new in 57 chevy used a Oldsmobile frame and motor and the 4x4's that you used for rear shocks I don't think thats orignal either but hey who knows , by now this guy had wasted my time and gas money there so I told him I'd give him 500 for it and fix it up for demolation derby ((( thank God he did not accept it because there wasent 500 dollars worth of parts left on it ))) he Told me to screw off he'd just ship it to barrett jackson next year and get three times his asking price out of it , I just laughed and left

I was offered some pretty big cash for my roadster in the early '90s. Guy made the mistake of telling me the first thing he would do was put disk brakes on front. I told him to keep looking that their must be plenty buckets at the meet for sale that already had disk brakes.

I sold my second car I owned to a kid in the next town over. It was a 79 Malibu with a built small block, built th350 trans, posi rear and some other random bits. Body was primer and looked like hell, but who cares.
I got a Camaro (first mistake) and sold it to this idiot kid, within a week he blows the tranny up, puts in another one, blows the motor up a month later. It's sitting in his yard almost 10 years later under a cover....STILL. Breaks my heart when I think about how many cars went up against that car and the nights I had in it, and where it is now. His $$ was green at the time though.

The guy I bought my 69 Delta 88 from was a complete racist nut job and sold me the car over three other people because I wasn't going to put 22's on it and "paint country's flags on the hood"...and a few other colorful remarks he said. I still walked away with a deal and a half though, haha.

    Oh yeah I have ,
I refused to sel lmy 54 Olds to a guy who wanted to make a pro street with BBC in it,
Also refused to sell my 78 Grand Am a few times, once to some young guys who wanted it on dubs or something and the other to an old jackass uses car salesman because he wanted to put a SBC crate motor in it since he couldn't find cool Pontiac stuff . Keep inmind this ia a rare car with almost ALL options, drive train restored already and due for a paint job so no need to do anything but drive and enjoy .

If you trying to buy an old car from and old timer you have to learn how to talk the talk. Tell them what they want to hear!

Old timer: So what ya going to with the 31 Model A coupe son?

Me: Im going to restore it back to orignal and put it in my barn till I die! (i.e. cut it up till it looks like a real hot rod!)

My Dad had a mid 70s custom chevy van years ago (nice)
He decided to sell it and a local older guy came to look at it
My dad didnt really understand why the guy wanted a van like this in the first place.
While looking at it the guy mentioned other than daily use it would also be handy to haul a few bails of hay in from time to time to feed his cows with:eek:
Dad just said Im sorry Ive changed my mind about selling it:D

I care about what happens to all the cars I sell. I feel like I am their custodian for a while.
I have Ermie Immerso's personal truck that he hauled his show cars and race cars around in for years, lots of Bonneville history etc, narrowed dually F250 etc..
    love the truck
Some gardeners / junk guys wanted to haul junk and dirt in etc because it was a dually
and could fit down the LA alleys etc..
    They would have destroyed it.
I didn't sell it to them.

2 years later, today, I just sold it to a 20 year friend of Ermie who always wanted the truck. Worth the wait.

  27. If you are so attached to it that you want to have a say so in how it is used, then you probably shouldn't get rid of it.But to answer the question, yes,I have refused to sell to someone that was going to destroy what I considered a work of art.I still have it.
