I've done it both ways several times; transamatic automission to manual transmission and manual transmission to transamatic automission (you'll understand that term easier if you're dyslexic). In high school (66-69), if you did't have a "stick", your car was't looked at as being much. My 56 Chevrolet, Model 210, 2 Door Sedan had a Powerglide in it, but it also had the clutch pedal pieces I'd installed for the manual transmission that would be coming in the future. When I finally did the swap, I could't keep a Muncie 318 3 speed in the car and working for long. I was always looking for a replacement or one to use for parts. Probably should have just left it alone. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  2. Butch, I completely understand. :D HRP

  3. When Quain Stot was bringing Gene Cromer's Moonlighter Willys coupe back to life he elected to live the original clutch pedal in the car sice back in the day it was a 4 speed car but due to Genes age the chose to make the car a automatic.

Ain't too many people his age that can still drive a car much less with the front wheels in the air. HRP

My 55 Belair was built with a 265 and cast iron powerglide bu Chevrolet. By the time it entered my life, it had a 64 283 and a three speed with a Hurst synchroloc floor shifter.

By the time it left my stewardship, it had a 327 and turbo 400.

My F100 was still all apart when 2nd wife decided to leave. I had to move ALL my car stuff, with a fresh '55 F100 w/'69 'Vette engine, and Buick Muncie 4 spd. Buick had a hard flange on the tailshaft, I was going to make a driveshaft with a slip yoke.
A co-worker gifted me his late mother's '66 Impala, couldn't stand to see it any more...
I pulled the powerglide, converter, flex plate, and floor shift linkage. Drive shaft even fit!
Tranny cooler bolted beneath floor, I was in business. Moved ALL my stuff, including my '27 Hiboy, thanks to a tight powerglide!
P.G. was LATER swapped out for a fresh 350 T.H., 'just to keep the truck mobile'. Replaced engine in '94 (?) w/Vortek, (a gift) Guess it'll never get that nice 428 C.J....
