is there a pic of the Hirohata Merc's dash?

I studied that on the wall at a show. I could not get over how tiny, perfect and intricate Von Dutch's 'This Is The City" work was on that dash.

Unk, no. it was proscribed, although that shouldn't have stopped me, I suppose.

I'm telling you, though, I just kinda gasped at it for about 15 minutes. just incredible, as if the man made himself 6 inches tall, stepped in, and did it from the inside out.

I'd sure like to find out where any shots of that work reside...

Unfortunately, no. It really doesn't have hot rods or customs; it's mostly factory cars. The book includes an original Model T, which has only an ammeter and an ignition key on the dash. The really great cars are a couple of Bugattis, a Duesenberg, a Bently, and early Alfa. Those things are artwork. It's great for inspiration: check out some of the engine tunring or underhood details. There are also some great early racecars.

The book is fantastic. It's a full-color, hardbound coffee-table sort of book, and worth every bit of $40. If you can actually get it cheaper, get it.

In one of the Barris annuals (little books).....he does a whole series of custom painted dashes. It's pretty cool. I forget the year it came out. I can check on it if yer interested.

I've got a friend who works at Pottery Barn. Apparently they carry the book, but I don't know what the price is.

I would definitely recommend that you put it on your Christmas list, or give it to someone else who loves cars.
