Have your feelings changed about enjoying the build vs the driving more?!?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Johnny1290, Jan 20, 2011.

  1. in my old age i've gotten even more jaded. I love the build, but like to watch someone else drive it. can't see what it looks like if i'm behind the wheel.

I am starting to feel the same way.......there is nothing like the feeling of starting one for the first time....or driving it the first time......after that the cherry is popped...on to the next.

Like to build, rebuild, and change it again. It goes in the summer to BTT50s , but then back in the garage . Always changing something.

Building is my therapy, but I do wish I could trade my daily driver for an older truck or something.

i love both. building feeds the creative side, driving feeds the adrenaline junky. The real reward for me is to drive what i've built.

  8. I've been in the position of garage queen no driver and it sucks! pure and simple! I even get the idea that my car is a "Golden Calf" and takes away from my family, life, everything! But, with a running car in the stable, I can still enjoy the activities and the shop life with out feeling "hurried or rushed" and I turn out a better product in the shop and can lock the door when I am tired. I do not want to be in the posistion again of no driver, better to have a beater then none!

The best advise I have ever got is "get it on the road and drive it like you stole it"\

I am 6 months away from this and I hope I don't get bored with iot once I start driving it.

I say a finished car has 50% of the fun in it's past.

Being a greedy SOB, I have a simple plan- finish the Chevy, then get another project. Then I can build or drive, depending on my mood.

It's a pain in the butt to have all your friends driving their cars when you're building one! I love the build and the drive, but unless I've got something to drive while I'm building another, the build can't go fast enough!
The first drive after a build is fantastic, but I miss the building in short time. Only solution is to always have one to drive and one to work on!

I like the build but also driving around in mine-try to always have one in the building stage and one to drive too-am retired so the building is great and gives me something to do--just did a 40 woody for a friend cause I didn't have anything to work on--kept me busy for a while--and really enjoyed it

I used to really enjoy the build and not much of the driving. My present build is dragging me down. Can't get really pysched about either. Just tired of spending $$$$.

Both for me. So I went out and bought an original driver so I don't rush through my build just to drive it.
