Yeah, baby girls have a way of doing that to their dads.

I was one of those dickheads, always had a chip on the shoulder, waiting to see who was next to get a fat lip. Not claiming a bad ass, but was to the point of having cops show up to the latest and greatest bar fight I either started, finished or was part of to some extent, and recognize me by face (depending on how bad it turned out).

My daughter being born put that type of crap to such a screeching halt. 12 yrs old and was just shocked to have heard of the way I used to be for the first time last week. Mom, sitting, nodding her head in agreeance, as she looked to her for confirmation, as if silently saying, "No waaaaay!"

The first time I went over to my ex-wifes house to meet her parents on my Harley, her dad made it a point to bring out his Ruger blackhawk 357 magnum to show me. We got to talking guns and shit and we ended up going out back and shooting a while. I took all the casings home with me to reload some hot loads for him. I didnt have a chance from then on.

My little girl will be three next month and loves Elvis and Rockabilly.

I would sing Elvis songs to here while my wife was pregnant and had Elvis playing in the delivery room. She was born to "Crying in the Chapel" Good thing my wife gave an extra push because the next song was "In the Ghetto".

Bath time is our time to sing and dance to Elvis and one day she just started singing along with me word for word. Now we can't go anywhere without listening to Elvis or Rockabilly music in the car. She makes song requests and sings along.

I must say, she does the sweetest version of 'Blue Suede Shoes' that you ever heard.

Keep singing to her and creating great memories.

yeah..i can relate! mines now going to be 9 in 3 weeks she helped me this last winter on the 53 chevy..(she thinks its her car) and they do have a way of balancing out your life, if you care, and if you pay attention..my daughter is alot like her daddy ,,gasoline in her veins..loves to go to car shows loves to ride motorcycles, For many years it was just her and me..I have been married to her stepmom now for 2 years , she is slowly accepting that. And she knows she will always be my little girl..Girls do have a way of waking you up. let them wake you up..its good for the soul. raise her right be honest with her, show her the love and she will be there for you too.

I have 2 girls, 6 and 2 and yes they can be a handful at times...(My 4 year son who is over 50lbs of muscle causes me more problems..) , but I wouldn't trade them for anyting and will do everything I can for them.. Enjoy the time you have it goes by fast and they learn quick.. and if you think she is bad now wait till she turns 2 ...

and as for the gun thing my worked over 45 colt gold cup shoots 2" groups at 30 and my wifes 38 isn't far off...and my 6 year old is a good plinker with a 22 already. They may be girs but they will be able to defend themselves, work on cars and be good with guns well before they leave home.

Ratstar, I feel your pain man.

    I have two girls (a 4 y/o & a 1 y/o.) - and I have tested the hot rod waters with the oldest but she's a true girlie-girl....

And I can't tell you haw often I have had to play the Ken to her Barbie (and that's not a joke). I am also the only one she wants to let touch her dolls when it comes time to dress/undress them. Apparently I am a 1/6 scale tailor too.

I have been forced to accept the fact that I will be dooing tea parties and pink dresses for a mighty long time.

I am taking it all in though - I can see what's on the horizon. She's going to HATE me when she's a teen! ;) So I am enjoying the "I love you daddy" time for as long as I can.

She does like Hot-Rods better than pedestrian cars, I can say that. But she is pretty disinterested overall.

She LOVES cool music though - and it all started because of mom. I played a lot of different music and I let her (at 3 years old) pick out her favorites.

Here's my cool daughter's hit list:

    Shut 'em Down
    Lil' Cobra
Surfer Girl (her all time favorite)
    Little Duece Coupe
    Help me Rhonda
    Stray Cat Strut
    Rock This Town
    Lowrider
    Purple People Eater
    Hot Rod Man
    Hot Rod Gang
    Maybellene
    Charlie Brown
    Beep Beep
    Ride on Joesephene

    Yea, I know she's awesome.....

I can relate to alot of the replys on this thread, I have two girls a 4 year old and a 1 year old. My life has surely changed, and I have the unfinished projects to prove it. My 4 year old helped me strip the paint off of my falcon roof the other night, it was cool. Patience is so hard have sometimes though. Cool lyrics ratstar

Hey Breeder my mom said something like this at my wedding reception her worry was over but atleast she only had to worry about ! with me while she had so much to worry about with my sister! well I just had to point out that my sister could only bring home 1 grandchild a year ,How many girls could show up on her front step saying the swelling belly was my fault?a hell of a lot more than one every nine months !!

A few short years ago I was teaching my girl Sara to do powerslides in a 5 speed K-Chevy truck, behind her old elementary school. Flash-foreward, she's about to become an MD. Guess she did better. Do miss her, though.
