I think this build meet's Webster definition of "antiquated", BUT not sure if it's HAMB friendly or not. It'll have a lot of used Pre-60's parts and not look like an 80's Street Rod. Basically I started with an idea to use this 37-38 Willy axle and knuckles, and build a Ed Roth inspired trike using a Harley Davidson Panhead engine. Ended up with a great deal on a wreck with a good Twin-Cam and tranny. Body is being build from not matching 49 Desoto and 49'ish Chrysler front fenders, and hood and truck lid from a 50/51 Plymouth. bottom half of a 1920ish windshield Galaxy Tail Lights also a 1934 chevy dash using a 1959 edsel grille 1961 Chrysler Imperial headlights Engine/Trans etc... pulled from a wrecked Harley Davidson
I love the vision of people on here. NEVER would have come up with a cool idea like this. The fenders look like they were MADE for this application.
so I couldn't decide between one seat or two, I thought a single seat would sit higher than looked "correct" with a steering wheel, so motorcycle handle bars would need to be used. But i really wanted to use this this steering column etc... from a Econoline. also I converted (oblong holes) pattern from the willys 4 on 4"(101.6) to a metric wheel pattern of 4x100mm because. 3 reasons, I found some VW rotors and these wheels at a good deal. 1 issue was they are too wide so remove 4" of back spacing. Other issue is they are billet, not sure what to do about that yet... the big ass weld bead helps some
was going to widen and extend Harley swingarm but couldn't find an affordable wide wheel. Ended up buying this Hayabusa swingarm and wheel. Widened it 2", welded in some 6" extenders and made a 3/4" spacer for the extra large sprocket to keep chain off the tire...
Frame structure done, reused Harley Davidson rear shocks/springs and upper mounts. Also front suspension with F-350 sway bar mostly complete.
Used 38 dodge upper shock mounts, look similar to F-1's (not as tall) and decided to got with a rack n pinion from a 70/71 pinto.... after cleaning up the axle, leaf springs, control arms mount brackets I'm considering Nickle plating similar to some of my Pea Green parts. If anyone sees issues or possible problems (especially with from front suspension) please comment, i'm kind of making this one up as I go.
Got some actual new sheet metal from a friend, thanks Mike. Was even pre-rolled with Rex's approval. Plan to use for tunnel, inner fenders etc...
Man I wish I had your skill, imagination and money! That thing is coming together awesome. Def bookmarking this thread!
my imagination in much better than my skills or money, but i'm getting better... next is behind seats and tunnel...
Nothing exciting going on, using 16 gauge for the inner floors (pretty ugly, trying to use every inch, leg room is going to be minimal. Plan to mount the idler sprockets tomorrow and build a "chain guard/cover"... also using seats from a transit van.
Worked on the structure up front a little bit. the 3/4 x 3/4 square tube I'm using bends pretty nice if you go slow.
Looks like things are coming along just fine.I`ll saddle up and go along for the ride. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
Made some mounts for unknown windshield frame and then redid cowl to match. still thinking about grill and shell, just not liking it....
haven't been happy with grill progress, so started placement of gas tank and it won't fit were I planned even with major modifications. So set it all aside and decided to try to make some front fenders. have been saving the left and right side of trunk lid for this, rolled some 1/4" round rod and made a wooden "die" to assist forming. Might end up a hot mess, but "I have a plan".....
