I ran into a guy and his wife while I was cruising down the coast. Had to make a rest stop. Him and his wife were bicycling. He stops to look at my Model A with a tri-carb 283 and 4 speed. He said he has a restored Model A he only drives in parades. I think, "Here it comes!". He smiles and said, "It sure looks like fun. Where you going?". I tell him I'm on my way home from the Primer Nationals.

I can't wait until my feelings are hurt and I post about it.

The world is a cruel cruel place. Sometimes you run into people that don't like you just because you are you. This should have been learned in grade school, but some people still believe everyone should like them, because they are so much more special than everyone else.

In other words, he's probably a HAMB'er and went off to complain that it wasn't TRADITIONAL? :D

I do like the car, man... I like a blend of old n' new like that. Keeps everyone guessing.

I've run into folks like that before. It almost makes me feel proud to offend a restorer.

" why did you strip the paint off? was it that bad? "

Yes. it was bad. The old paint was chipping off in 2 - 4 inch chunks all over, leaving nothing but a rough edge and bare metal. I wanted to see exactly what I had here. With such bad paint, I was expecting more rust and bondo ... I got lucky.

    Thanks.

What gets lost frequently in this type of discussion is that when you build or buy a car, that car is all about what YOU want! Doesn't matter if it isn't what someone else wants it to be or what they have. The main thing is, they're all for and by CAR PEOPLE!
The Brookville '31 Hiboy I'm building isn't going to be totally traditional, or what's termed "HAMB friendly", but by God it's what I want, built mostly by me to accomplish what suits me, and me alone.
I'm gonna be 71 next birthday and I don't want to spend or have enough time left to find a gennie body and restore it. I probably woulda bought a glass body if I hadn't found this Brookville at a good price!
I have friends with rods built from gennie bodies and frames, others with glass bodies and gennie frame, and still others with glass bodies and aftermarket frames. All are nice cars and much enjoyed by their owners, and IMO, that's all that counts.

The old guys are the only ones that really understand. Some day 63dan63 will walk away from some young guys ride and shake his head because of flies! Dirty old man got it right!

  11. I some doubt that he was any of the above. He was too much of a gentleman to make a statement that may have been offensive and just walked away. We may not like someone elses car, but nothing is gained by making rude statements.
The term, "he just doesn't get it" is getting old. He gets it fine, just doesn't agree.

I love the poster's Model A. I wouldn't drive an unpainted car, but that is my choice.

    Well said,

We think alot differenty when we're young and have decades of life left, verses having lived for decades with all it's life experiences, and the end of the road starts coming into view.

He could have atleast pretended to be interested in your car and kept his opinion in his head. I hate obvious rudeness. Fuck him.

I've found that it's best not to even tell the majority of "restorers" that you even have a similar vehicle if it is modified. I think the AD truck restorers are more anal then the Model A clubbers.

Being just 10 years younger than dirty old Man I also have mellowed a bit and don't worry that much about what others cars are built of. I don't really care if the car was built out of pieces drug out of fields, bought from .com auto supply or put together from a bit of everything. I do care that it is safe to be driven around me and mine. That the car or truck has the proper equipment to steer and stop right and won't change lanes on it's own when it is beside me on the freeway.

Yea, like a few of the others I tend to pass by a lot of cars at rod trots. I don't spend much time if any looking at the my wheels are bigg.er and my tires are skinnier than yours cars. I rarely stop to look at a tri-5 Chevy unless it is an exceptional car. I seldom look at the 65 and up models unless again they are an exceptional example of their breed. I made the comment to a friend the other day that they were still "used" cars to me. I pretty well refuse to take a photo of a car or truck with a "showboard' sitting in front of it and don't even drag along your old trophies from past shows if you want me to stop and look at your car.
I don't know about how others look at it but normaly I don't stop and look at a car if your kids are playing in the back seat nor do I look at it or take photos of it if you have set up camp around it and have trash, junk and other stuff around the car.

With that let's just say that we all have our likes and dislikes and it is probably best that we sometimes keep them to ourselves.
