I want to modify my head lights on my 51 Chev Bel Air. I like the way it is done using all steel head light bezels. The problem is that practically all the 49 to 52 Chevs came with stainless steel bezels and you need the solid steel ones that can be welded into place. I thought these all steel bezels came from 47 ot 53 Chev Pickups but all those seem to be stainless steel too. Does anyone out there know where I can find a pair of the all steel ones.?

    Why can't stainless be used?

weld the stainless ones on and you will have no problems.

How do you weld on stainless? I was told that would not work.

Did some quick reading and it seems mostly a concern in structural situations. Of co**** corrosion but also brittleness from conversions occurring in the metal itself. The trim rings should never see any real stress and just need to be bonded to the fender.

welding stainless to another piece of stainless where you need to polish it or need the corrosion protection you would need stainless wire for your mig and different gas than the argon CO2 mix. not sure what off the top of my head since I never needed to do it.

just pretend they are regular steel and weld them on.
