Hello all, I have the torque numbers (65 - 70 ft/lbs) for the cylinder head (thanks to RetroJim). I just want to make sure that it's a normal criss cross pattern starting on one of the outside head bolts. If someone has a manual and could either explain it or if you have a picture of it and could just post that, that would be much more helpful. I'm going to start re***embling the motor tonight if all goes well. I'm heading back to my garage now but I can check the page via my blackberry. Oh....its a 215 from a 53 Ford Customline. Thanks
I just did a search on google and found a tractor site that's saying on the 9N tractors (which is the same engine if memory serves me correctly) you should torque from the center bolts out to the ends. Can anyone validate that? Also, I got the head rebuilt and they resurfaced it. Would you guys recommend using copper gasket spray on the gasket? Head surface? Block? All three?
Jesus man, I owe you. If I'm ever down in your neck of the woods, I owe you a beer! If you lived up here, I'd be giving you garage space just so I'd have you there as my personal reference guy! Had to run home for something but heading back to the garage. Sent the girlfriend out with her friends for the night. Not too sure if she's going to be happy about that or pissed because I didn't take her out. Oh well, if I can get this car running by next week then it will be worth a little aggravation. I'll let you know how I make out tonight.
Thanks, but spend the beer money on a '53 Ford Shop Manual. They're available in book form on eBay for very little, but they are worth their weight in gold!
