granted powder coatings best but local powder coaters won't gaurantee em , don't last they say-so .. is there a good header paint out there I've heard Eastwood or a Napa Auto Parts brand works best, Jet hot is the best PC but WAY out of my budget right now.experiance???- local car parts store stuff is **** as is stove paint,
The VHT 1500° rattlecan paint lasted about two years on my motorcyle pipes until it flaked off. The pipes were sandblasted before being painted. POR-15 header paint cracked and flaked off in about ten minutes on fresh out of the box headers. I think it's in the prep. Ed PS. I'm thinking about using Eastwood hi-temp paint on my next set of manifolds, as I've heard good things about it.
Mike, the powder coating outfit that I use, does CERAMIC coatings. The ceramic coatings are quaranteed not to peel or discolor. My headers were coated about five years ago, and still look like the day I installed them, after about 25,000 miles. The coatings are now available in several colors as well as.
I've used VHT High Heat header and exhaust manifold paint in the past with great results. Lasted a couple of years on headers that saw daily use in Michigan...the ULTIMATE torture test!
I've had real good experiences using "Cermakrome", it comes in a bottle and you brush it on, but you do have to bake them in the oven. It smells terrible, but I'm single so who cares. I got it from Jegs and it was only like $20 for a bottle. Stuff works great, and looks great. After it's baked you can actually polish this stuff too. Did a set of headers a few years ago on my late model that still look great. I think it was made by Tech Line Coatings.
I have had good luck with the Eastwood paints, and their reasonably priced. The last set of ****** block huggers that I painted lasted for many years. I bought them new, sand blasted them to get the factory black paint off, and then thinned some Eastwood paint with laquer thinner and sprayed them numerous times. The're still laying on a shelf in the garage and look like the day I painted them ten years ago. Be careful not to scratch them or they'll rust and I never had anything drip on them that wouldn't wipe off. Shoe
New Image Coatings in Lino Lakes will ceramic coat a set of headers or a pair of cast exhaust manifolds for about $135. i've had them do at least 5 pairs in the last several years and they all still look good.in fact,i'll be taking another exhaust system to them in a couple weeks. mark, who runs the place ,always tells me he will stand behind his work..so far he hasn't needed to. i know it sounds like a lot of money, but it well worth it when you consider you will never have to coat your headers again their number is: (651) 784-7055
