OK here is my take, Your bracket racing and does it really matter? Will spending $1000 win the round when you paint the dial-in on your window.

  2. Guess not,
And I could have just as much fun racing a yougo in brackets too.
If you can get your LSR car a few mph faster you might get your name in the book, big deal ? Depends on who you ask.

I don't think any gear head wants to leave anything on the table.
There's lots that dont get how every part needs to work together and unintentionally mix in the wrong components that work against the goal.2

  3. I think that the deal with bracket racing unless you are using a control box is that it is a drivers game, not a tunners game. You can take any old stock **** box and be consistent and win.

Back when it was heads up it took a combination of the two, you driver had to be able to do it every time and catch up with every new tweak and the tunner had to be able to make thr tweaks and relate to the driver what it was going to do when so that the new tweak didn't make him loose time instead of make time.

I imagine tat both have their propective advantages but not being a driver I am all for heads up where I can actually make a difference.

B'ville and Heads-up racing need all the advantages they can get, but the OP stated he was bracket racing and I would look into other areas of my operation first before spending it on something that really has no bearing except for a different sound or a couple thou on the ET slip. I have to listen to all these racers on this board and other places that complain about entrys going up from $25 to $35

  5. Last time I was at the local track ( before they closed it) I had to give 30 for a pit p***. I can't imagine what they wanted if I was going to run my own car. I expecct it to be real high when they put the strip in ove at the NASCAR complex. But that's just racin' it never has been econimical in any fashion.

I did just have an idea for a new way to make money, we could do bracket nostalgia races @ muroc.

    NOPE!
Gummo, Real Name Milton, was born in New York City, he worked with his brothers on the vaudeville circuit, but left acting when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War I, years before his four brothers (Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, Chico Marx, and Zeppo Marx) began their film career

BUT - and this is a BIG **** (J-Lo Style), you are calculating optimum size for a drag race motor at 7,000 RPM and this is NOT an optimum size for a street strip size, or other forms of racing. In fact it may not even be optimum for a strip car if it is in a heavy car with tall gears and needs to power down low to get it moving, regardless of where it goes through the lights, as with all things in racing, there are still compromises to be made ;)
Harley's present their own set of problems due to the odd firing order. straight pipes are easier to calculate out, but 2 into 1 will work better anywhere but wide open and they become very complicated. I have spent MANY, MANY hours on the Dyno with Harley Motors designing pipes and hey are a pain in the *** compared to anything with an even firing order! Of course most Harley guys don't give a ****, they just want GREAT BIG pipes that are STUPID LOUD and don't care if they give up 50% of the power to have them!

And since his is a Street Strip car, the smartest thing he can do is replace the shorty's with a good set of production headers, like the Doug's I mentioned and pick up some power for a more fun car, and call it good! :D
