I'm having my '93 302HO engine rebuilt right now and am working on gathering all the parts I will need for it. I was able to get some GT40p heads for it, and am looking for exhaust for it now. I understand that headers will have some spark plug clearance issues, or frame clearance issues, but the cast iron Hipo manifolds will work good. I don't want to loose much power or sound if here is a better way. Anyone know of some headers that will work for sure with the P heads in a 54 ford?

  2. Hey man, I had the same issue. Mine is a 56 though. JeffB2 turned me onto these. you can get them in plain steel too and you shouldn't have any clearance issues and they are for the GT40P heads. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/snh-ff3gtssec

Just curious though, what cam and rockers are you using? I have hit a wall with pushrod selection and I'm building a 93 302 as well.

Thanks Chris I'll look into those. are the plain steel just cheaper? Any other reason not to get the coated ones?
My machinist is still tearing the engine apart to see what needs to be replaced, but if it's all in good condition we might just use the stock HO cam and rockers. I've never built an engine before so I'm leaving it in the professional's hands.
Good luck with your build. You running an auto or manual trans?

  4. yes, exactly just cheaper is all. I'm running a manual, my car had a C4 in it. Me too for building a motor and I keep hitting a lot of little hiccups. I had to tear into my block and have it bored .030. and I couldn't leave well enough alone, I threw a bunch of parts at it and now I have to figure out this pushrod thing, hopefully this is the last big question mark on my build and i'll be back on the road soon. The manual trans was a whole issue in itself but I have some good info on that if you are planning on using a manual too.

Nice. Yes I'm running the T5 from the same donor car as the engine. Just got my clutch pedal ***embly yesterday from an original manual car.
Well wish me luck on my build that I don't have to get to crazy with it. Trying to build just a good cruiser, but it's hard to want to give it more power since I'm already this deep into it.

  6. ha ha, I know man... I horse traded for some good parts and figured since it needed machining, now is the time to do it. I decided to use an S10 Tailhousing on my T5, which created some issues with the speedometer drive gear but it does put the shifter 8" further forward. Still trying to fin a pedal. Are you running a cable or hydraulic clutch? Good Luck man!!!

Cool. Luckily for me I have buckets in my Vicky so the shifter should be in a good location I'm hoping.
I think a cable setup would be the easiest, but I do have to add a cam to the top of the pedal for that. I've got a friend who has done all this before and I'm just following his lead. It helps to know people!

  11. Mikhett, yeah the GM S10 T5 (check the years) tailshaft housing will bolt up to the ford T5 and put your shifter about 8 inches further forward. You'll have to swap the cover with the shift rod as well so that it mates to the S10 tailhousing. The thing you want to watch out for there is different size rods. I think the only variable there is the NWC vs WC but I'm not 100% on that. The other thing that will get you is the speedometer drive gear. I wanted to retain my original speedo so I had to get the tailshaft machined and ended up getting the drive gear from a TH350. There's a guy here that did it for me, Kato Kings, and now I just need a new cable and I'm good to go. if you're going to run an electric speedo, then you have more options. I hope that helps, but if you want more info, i'll do my best to help.
