Headlight stands, nickle plated

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tman, Nov 14, 2003.

  1. I got my headlight stands back today. A pal that does custom gunwork layed some Nickle on them. I am a cheapskate, I traded a 12 of Miller for the job.

  2. I do a lot of nickle on my motorcycles, i think it looks better than chrome......a "warmer" look if you will. by the way, metal is weakened by chroming.....not so with nickle.

I tried Nickle plating on some of my car parts,It dulls very soon and you must keep after it.Other than that If you don't mind polishing it every 3 to 5 days I guess its fine--TV [IMG]

How does nickel hold up to corrosion?
Just wondering since nickel is one of the stages when getting something chromed.

i had a motorcycle frame nickel plated... thing was on the road every day, rain or shine, for a few years...
never tarnished any more than some windex and a paper towel would clean.
Love the warm coloring of it...

BTW, i had a bunch of small parts done by a friend's dad... at home. Not sure what the hell he did, much less what the process of nickel plating is... but dosent seem to be something that a home-shop would be able to do. None the less, he did it... What is the process, out of curiosity?

  7. Yeah, I like the "warm" look of nickel. For the price of a 12 pack I dont mind em at all!

  8. Root, I look at it this way. How many Nickel plated revolvers got beat up dialy in holsters and still look good?

BTW, these are the stands I made from Dodge truck upper shock mts and parts froma Model A headlight bar.

  10. Very nice Tman.

A little thinking outside the box as far as components go.
Just takes an eye I guess.

Anyhoo ... got a pic of them installed or at the least mocked up?

Yea, Tman, I'd like to see a shot of them mocked up too. At least bolted to the frame. They look tits.

  12. I have an old pic of them on a frame before I had them plated. I will post a new pic this weekend, I just need to weld the DOM into my frame for these and my wishbones and I will have a roller!
