48 oldsmobile, I took the advice of this site for the universal light switch by adding power , pulled out to first position and put park lights on that . My ignorant question is why when headlights on taillights don't light ?
Are you saying that when you pull the switch out to the first detent, the parking lights are lit front and back? And when you pull the switch out to the second detent the headlights come on and the parking lights turn off on all 4 corners?
Put a multimeter on the ohms setting and find out which terminals connect to which in the various switch positions and you should be able to find out which wires go where.
I like relays. Trigger the parking lights front-and-back on one relay and headlights/tail lights on another relay, with a hi/lo beam toggle.
I have owned cars that when you turn on the headlights, the parking lights up front turn off. I never liked that feature so I would re-wire the front indicators to the rears which stay lit. I think you grabbed the wrong terminal on the switch for the lights, you have wired all the indicators to the front parking light terminal. I would grab an ohm meter, test my theory, then find the terminal for the rear lights and either send just the rears there or all of them if you desire to have them all lit when the headlights are on.
