My 65 ford pick has a 352 in it and I was wanting to update the heads on it. Anyone got any advice or know of any heads that are cheap and work good in them?
C6AE-R; very common, and most FE people say that with a mild porting job and CJ valves, they're a poor mans Cobra Jet Head. And I recommend joining the FE Forum, tons of experience there! http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182/
Looks like the going price (I looked at Summit's website, you might find them cheaper somewhere else) is about $1350 a pair for Edelbrock aluminum heads. Before you spend big money to get some "trick" factory heads that need to be rebuilt (at considerable expense), make sure you figure out how much it will cost to refresh your new heads. It would be a shame to have a new set of factory heads that cost more than a set of Edelbrocks, weigh about half again as much, and make less horsepower and torque. Certainly, factory heads will work well enough, and are very likely to be cheaper. However, if you figure horsepower (or lb-ft of torque) per dollar, the new heads start to look pretty good.
If you are looking to get hardened seats the D2TE heads are the ones you want, they were used in trucks from 72 untill 76 which was the last year for the FE. I doubt they are a performance head since they are made during the smog years. Jeff
