So I'm wandering around the LA Roadster's Pomona show, and I come across this little RPU, running a "Heale"? Blower Drive. Never seen one before, sure would like to know more about it.
Talked to the owner once years ago and it may be a modified Howard? and pretty sure his last name is Foye like the bottom name on the round cover. Maybe he made the small cover himself?
Just found some more info on the truck. http://www.streetrodderweb.com/even...onal_roadster_show_suede_palace/photo_11.html
Question. How is that blower 'driven'? Is there a belt or chain behind the front cover and under the 'spacer' between the front cover and blower case? Or a pulley snout on the far right of the front case that isn't visible in the pics?
I wondered about that too..Really hard to see in pic but see the part that has the oil line attached? I believe it extends down to the crank snout..
There was a great article in hot rod deluxe a few years back. That blower drive is a one off part made by one of the 3 guys that built and co/owned the truck. It's chain driven and that oil line lubes the drive chain. Apparently this thing is a beast and was dominating the local drag strip and street races. That hemi ate up a deuce frame or two in the process. RLFFRL
I think I have the issue of HRD with this truck on the cover with the full feature. It's in my locker at work. Ill post pics on here when I go in tomorrow night. RLFFRL
Was in the movies too. http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/307266/Palm-Springs-Weekend-Movie-Clip-Easter-Invasion.html
I remember this car very well, having grown up in Temple City, CA. The car was frequently seen around town. It was originally built by Ross Heale and Jack Foye. I have to imagine the cover is a custom one off. I got my first "up close" of it parked at Heale Hardware in town. Very cool car!
