Has any body added vintage heat and air to their flathead ford 59a if so can you use a nipple in the radiator drain for the heater supply hose or is it best to put a nipple directly in the rad hose like factory did for heater , and where to hook up return on the head ?
The right side head is the supply (under pressure). You will need to remove the temperature sender from the head if there are not two outlet holes and install a 3/8" nipple. Your temperature gauge should still work, as this sender only cuts all signal from the circuit when overheating, causing the gauge to go all the way to HOT. For the return you need to use the threaded hole on the right side water pump if it has one. If not you will need a nipple that can go into the lower radiator hose. These are available from early Ford parts suppliers and requires a hole carefully cut in the hose for installation. If you are using this engine in an installation that requires the use of truck water pumps (longer shaft) to match up the front motor mounts, most of these have a heater return port on the right side pump. Thus sayeth the old coot.......
I am running evans waterless coolant with a2psi radiator cap , will that cause lack of pressure through the heater to work properly ?
No. A pressure cap raises the boiling temperature of the coolant and little if any effect on the heater. The heater depends on the flow rate of the coolant, in other words pump output. Use good pumps and thermostats. As famous as the flatheads are for being hard to cool, they are also hard to warm up in cold weather. Use 180 degree 'stats in the winter and 160 in the summer. A good 4 row radiator is a big help especially if you have an AC condenser in front of the radiator.
