I have a dual stainless exhaust system with mufflers that are 30" long. I haven't been able to find any solid heat shields for them. My front floorpans get scorching hot, so I'm looking for ideas. I see there's an adhesive backed product called thermo-tec that would go under the car, just not sure if it would adhere since there's black tar/undercoating under the car that the last body guy sprayed on there and it always seems sticky, even though it's been two years (that's a story for another time.) Any thoughts?

Local shop that does my exhaust has a s**** pile of mufflers & heat shields off of daily drivers. They're metallic, flexible and could easily be cut to fit or modified to suit just about any application. I grabbed a few off the pile for just such an occasion. I would think those in combination with some extra heat shielding insulation on the floor inside the cab should help solve your problem.

A coworker came up with this as a solution for a heat shield: Get two muffler clamps & install them one at each end of the muffler. Then screw threaded couplers onto the exposed threads. Measure the distance between the couplers and apply those dimensions to a piece of metal (stainless would be nice but not req'd) Drill the hole pattern for the size of the bolts that will fit the threaded couplers. Attach the metal to the couplers with bolts and washers and lock washers. If the couplers are not long enough to get the metal above the muffler get some all thread & screw them into the couplers run a nut down onto the all thread so the shield will have a seat then set the drilled heat shield onto the nuts and apply another set of nuts and lockwashers to keep everything in place.

I make these and use them on customers' projects, this is a small piece left over from a turbo drag car. They are 2 pieces of .060ish aluminum formed into what ever shape is needed and a 2000deg insulation pad is sandwiched between them and the entire thing riveted. You clamp them onto your muffler and the rivets act as standoffs, I use t-bolt clamps to give it a ***y look. I get the pad material from McMaster-Carr.

Something like this would work? If not a separate shield between the muffler and floor pan with that airspace t dissipate the heat. Also available is proper under carpet floor insulation, not underlay, that would ***ist, in conjunction with the shielding, in making traveling in the car more pleasurable? No toastie feet
