Heater Fan Motors

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Beep, Dec 19, 2009.

  1. Anyone ever replace your heater fan motor with an up-to-date model? My 59 Ranchero fan motor works, runs good and quiet, but slow. All of those older ones ran slow. Mine is two speed (slow and slower)

How would one go about changing the motor to one without changing the mounting device?

    Thanks

Check out a four seasons (or whatever line of heating/cooling/AC parts they carry) catalog at your local parts store - there's an illustrated cross reference section in there with dimensions, rotation, shaft length/diameter, etc. You should be able to find something there. Or, here's a link to there online PDF catalog - look here on about page 322-323.

It's possible that the motor is fine, but the resistors that control the motor speed are just out of date. When I got my 57 F100, it had two speeds like yours, but the wiring was shot. I had a 68 F100 that I was parting out, so I pulled the harness out of it, it was still in really good shape. It plugged right into my 57 blower motor, but wouldn't plug into the switch. It needed a three speed switch. I could have used the one from the 68, but I didn't like the way it looked. I found one from a 61 T-Bird that fit and it now blows three speeds, slow, medium, and fast. If you want to try, you could go to the pick n pull and pull the harness and switch from a late 60's to late 70's Ford truck. Get the resistors too, they're mounted to the motor housing, you'll see where the harness runs to a plate screwed to the housing, then comes back out and goes to the motor. It shouldn't cost more than a few bucks. Good luck, John

  8. Napa has a book of measurements, it ranges in the HUNDREDS of replacement motors. I scanned it for some HAMBers but the scan was not so clean. I do have a better scanner now and could redo it. Or, just go to your local Napa and ask to look at the book

I put a WWG Grainger motor in my Jag, based on info from a Jag Bulletin Board.

It was a near bolt-in replacement for my E-type.

    Maybe it'll help you.
    Good luck,
    Pete
