i've got one in my olds, never plumbed it up though. It would be nice for fall cruising. Lately it doesn't snow here until begining of DEC.

i'd rather have a heater than a/c. needed that when the wind chill gat to be -12. if i didn't, that would've definitely sucked.

  5. I've driven my 1992 daily driver for several years without a heater since the core got a hole in it and I'm not about to go to all the trouble to drop the steering column, pull out wiring, remove the whole dash unit and then the other "cover" behind it to get at the core:eek:. Time is limited working two jobs and I'll spend my car time on my '53.
The biggest problem I've found is the lack of a defroster when driving in wet weather, a rag just doesn't cut it:mad:. That's why I think a heater WITH defroster ducts is a good thing.:D

This is an unbelievable idea HP. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. This is exactly the idea I was looking for for the 37 ford truck under seat gas tank I have for the wifes 36 were working on. We are not using the tank for gas, but was looking to see what we could use the tank space for. This is definitely a "print and save" tech thread!!

  9. I live in Minnesota so it's almost a necessity. I drive my rod well into winter until it starts to snow. Used to ride motorcycles in the winter(22degrees) when I lived in Wichita. That's when I was young and tuff or dumb.

I live in the snow and rust belt, have heaters in two of my rides, and thinking of a heated seat in my open bucket, getting to old to ride in the cold, the wife says wear more clothes but you can only put on so much.

No heater in my Essex now, but when I re-do the truck it will be getting one. I like to be warm when I drive.

there's one on most old hondas, can get it at almost any junkyard, it's a simple lever valve,in and out, will hook up to a cable eye. i haven't seen one fail yet. can probably pick one up for a buck or two. then maby a manual choke cable or something like it. i saw a nice one at the car show here, was all brasss.

  15. You don't have to cover for the old man....I know the real reason he sold the bucket was because he can't take the cold anymore.

  16. I'd rather be warm than cold, I'll be installing a heater in my car.

Count me among the bunch who like our comforts and plan to have heat and ac in the truck this time and that little aftermarket heater that I have had stashed away for the past 25 years in the roadster.

I've spent too many summers broiling in the chopped cab of my truck with limited airflow because of the chop. I've also spent too many winters freezing my ass off in the same truck because the heater didn't work.

The heater for the roadster increases the range and the amount of time that I will be able to drive it without a snowmobile suit. To get to any gathering of PNW HAMB folks I have to go over a mountain pass or a close resemblence. It gets cold up there at night or early in the morning. Sunrise on Chinook pass is a beautiful experience to witness but even in the middle of July it is in the low 30's at 6 am up there.

A heater will help increase the range you can travel comfortably with the car and as mentioned above it helps keep the female companions happy unless you just don't care to have female companions along for one reason or another. If your lady is cold it is going to be a long miserable night usually.

  20. I love the Art deco heaters, and I love the warm. Only sissies use the word sissies. Manly men know how to hook up a heater and turn on the switch.

I had a Vintage A/C and heater in my 56 F-100. I've also put same in my deuce. I grew up in Iowa and was cold all my life. Fu*k that shit I want to be comfortable. If the truth is known I use my heater more than I ever will the A/C. I can always get in the shade and have a Pepsi to cool off, not so trying to get warm. Just my opinion.

    See my signature...lol

But seriously, if I was going to drive my car everyday in the winter I would run one. I just removed it for clutter & weight reasons.

I've used `1/2 inch pipe ball valves to shut the water off at the engine to keep the hot water out of the coil in the summer. Really only one valve is needed on the supply side, but two will let you isolate it in case the core or hoses start leaking.

On one car i used the gas shut off valves (like at a stove), same as a ball valve with smaller handles. Regular hardware store items.

Vintage valves are all brass and don't look modern.

For heater controls I have used a valve for a full sized Dodge van from the early 80's. They mount on the hose, inline with a cable operated valve. They are small and easy to install, no mount brackets, neat appearance, and CHEAP.

This might sound dumb to some.Worked for me.
The 34 p.u. I built years ago, gone now darn. Being a smaller area(cab) to take the chill off,I incorporated a tranny cooler in right side kick panel, used adapters from block to run small hoses cause heater hoses are ugly to me.Ran the 1/2 inch lines along the frame up thru the bottom of cab, made a small cap for top of the t/cooler with a fan and ball valve to control the flow.Never did finish the defroster hook up.
