Heavy custom work on a................2 CV!!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by CheatersPete, Jul 10, 2005.

  1. That is wicked cool!

  2. >>Its kind of an art-deco super car.

Not quite - bear in mind that its has a 625cc air-cooled flat twin under the bonnet. On a good date that lump kicks out 32BHP so let's not get carried away. Still it weighs absolutely fuck all (around 350 kilos) so it is no slouch but absolutely not a super car.

Now if you could give it a tube chassis to allow fitting a V8 and a suicided beam axle, THEN we'd be talking.

A guy in Germany dropped a 2VC Body on a Vette Chassis ( some time in the '70 I think...)

  29. The rear fenders are simply four of the original two welded together. Note the fuel filler holes on both, that was the right render (they are removeable stock, AND include the little fin thing). IF you look at the pic of my 2CV6, you'll see the fender line outlined in stainless. The front doors are stock lowers, chopped severely. The sidelights took some imagination. Looks like chopped third lites, turned 90º and welded back in. The rear side panels are simply the stockers pulled into a Vee. The rear doors are lost  , body shortened. The chassis even in stock config is unnecessary after the rear suspension crossmember, so it was cut off. The bonnet (hood) is stock early ripple, the headlights dropped. Dash and interior look fairly stock, with the column cut down, and a later speedo added. The engine, if it is still the same, and it looks like it is, would be a 425cc opposed twin of just under 20 horsepower, good for nearly 60 mph in a stocker. If it were the later 602cc, it'd do nearly 70, stock, but it'll do that ALL DAY. These engines are so ridiculously overbuilt that they last nearly forever. A 650 Visa engine is a possibility, but I think he was going for looks, NOT performance, per se. Actually, a 1200cc GS opposed four CAN be stuffed in, but requires frame stretching. And this was the engine for the James Bond 2CV in "Live and Let Die", on AMC tonight and tomorrow afternoon (car built by Citroën for the movie).

    All in all, VERY neat!!

  30. I'm lovin' that 2CV Sedan - just needs a V8 in it now.

I have run 2CV's since the early 1980's because they were basically the pinnacle of 1930's engineering and still available new at that time.

At first glance they are just weird little cars but anyone who has driven them and worked on them will know that they are something special.

Also it is not widely known, but 2CV's were invented by the French to deal with the twin surpluses of US Army corregated iron field latrines and portable generator units after WW2. Shipping it all back to the US was too expensive and the French were paying Lend/Lease loans on them any way. Citroen's design team put their thinking caps on and, Voila!! C'est Ca.

    It's all true - I swear.
