My shots of it are grainy but I will snap more on our trip. The Interior is done with no gauges and a single desoto sculpture. It is very art-deco and almost looks French to my eyes. When I go over to his house, I just stare at it as if I have never seen it before. Simply beautiful.
I should mention that in Daign's shot of the side, the door was not shut. The fit of everything is 1/8th and leaded straight.
And to think that when I shipped him the grille I had no idea what it was going on. Had it on EBay. All I was told was a far out custom!
Paul Cepeda is a Mexican artist/metal man in Nimpomo Cal. He works on customs for a living and turns out two cars a year. He builds Harleys and customs. The list of cars is long. This car started out as a 41 Desoto with 41 ford lights, Merc roof section, Zephyr rear clip, Zephyr rear gl***, ch***is is heavily C'd and Z'd with two pumps on each wheel. The car can be raised 16 full inches. The running boards, fenders, trunk, and wheel skirts are all welded and molded in. Here's a question for you all..... how does he change 10 batteries? where are they? The car has a sick amount of body work most of which is straight, hard lines like in the back. It is flawless. Like I said earlier, we drove to Paso together, while we were parked drinking beer Bill Hines limped over and was stunned. I was impressed. Not bad for a Mexican kid dressed like a cholo. Go to Pomona and whatch what the crowds do around it. People seem to love this car. Plowboy: I really cant tell what is stock and what isn't. I guess that's the point.
That Zephyr Coupe stuff is hard to come by. There was a ragged out one on e-bay a couple weeks ago. It didn't last long before it was pulled. With the decklid all welded together, it sure would be a long crawl to the back of the trunk, especially dragging a battery with you! I imagine that is where the 10 batteries are. My buddy had a 37 Zephyr coupe, the trunk was huge! It had a cool flip out spare tire rack. That car looks like it has modified Zephyr running boards as well.
That car is freakin beautifull. With out any gauges visible, how does he keep tabs on the engine and such? Are they hidden somewhere? later plmczy
That car has some amazing lines. It's kind of funny, my dad who is 66 years old, doesn't care for customs. He likes mild hot rods, early Ford stuff, but he loves this car. He saw it at Paso 2 years ago and still talks about it. He was just talking about it over the holidays. Neal
Gooch, I talked with Paul when he first brought it to Paso a couple years ago - a nice guy - and a superb fat fender custom. That dash even influenced me to go out and finder a nicer dash for my project and get a little more creative. I just love rolling sculpture - thanks for posting the shots and have a great trip to the show.
as i often say about works of art such as this...... HOLY GAWD OF **** !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....i have seen pics of it in red oxide but it looks better black , much more sinister looking .....please tell me he is eventually going to a paint job that looks like gl***. this car deserves it.....i will be trolling the parking lot at pomona for it . maybe shake dudes hand .....man i miss my plymouth now.........but it never looked half that cool..........WOW!
I shot that in paso for Mad Fbaricators .... I Freaking Love that car...I just made Poopies in my pants//// Evel
Just to be different .....I don't like it all that much. Black isn't doing it any favours. Seems like a shortcut. I imagine there's another colour in the pipeline...???? I hope so. Something about the back of the car bugs me. is it the drip rail? The area behind the rear quarter window (C-pillar)??? The shape of the boolid? I dunno. I can't put my finger on it.....looks like a fat slug from behind. I'd still have it though....but straight to the metal-carvers to fix a few things. Sorry!
Paul took me for a cruise around the block in that car in Paso, 2002... After the Sat. night Shifters shindig... One of the coolest customs around. Defenitely!
Hey, I dig the red oxide shots so the detail is more clear on the computer. Damn, as if it weren't impressive enough. Look at that side shot at the rear quarter window. It's Ryan's avatar live and in technicolor!
