For starters do I need to pull the dowel and tap for an exhaust stud on the outermost exhaust ports on a 292? Also I'm running these with a clifford 4bbl intake and Nothing lines up well. The headers just act like they don't want to fit and they are brand new right out of the box from hedman. Is this a common issue? I mean they weren't the most expensive headers, so did I get what I paid for? Thanks in advance, I might have some pic's of my new motor later today. Zor
I never had good luck with Hedman Headers fitting. I had to mock up a head and heat them with a torch to get them to fit. Another friend of mine took his back to Hedman but they wouldn't stand behind their product because he had bought them from P.A.W.. As he was leaving, an old guy walking he said, "You don't look happy". He explained his problem with the service manager and the old guy had him follow him in. The old guy went up to the service manager and said to take care of the problem, which he did. Turns out, the old guy was the owner.
Here's the engine. Here's the mock up. The headers and intake do not fit well together. After assessing things it should just take a little bit of massaging on each of them to make it work. They really only interfere at one port, but it is definitely not a bolt in deal. But really it should be expected when dealing with aftermarket parts from multiple companies. and here is the truck.
I have dealt with Hedman Headers since 1958..I can count on one hand the problems encountered....They have always bent over backwards to correct any problems..In above situation, appearently the "old man" that entered was Bob Vandergriff Sr. He owns Hedman and Ron Funfar is current president...Bob Sr is father of Bob jr who has run fuel dragsters for some time.just not this year.
