Can anyone tell me how to hook up a GM HEI to my Allen Syncrograph? I suspect I need some type of pulse amplifier. Here is what happens; I run 12v power to the power wire on the 3 pin plug & hook up the signal wire from the syncrograph to the trigger wire on the HEI plug and run the ground to the distributor body. The machine will strobe for a few seconds then go out:confused:. I can disconnect & reconnect the power (or ground) and repeat with the same results?
I know the Sun machines had an amplifier that could be used with electronic distibutors. Can I use one of these with my machine? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I know this won't be the only HEI I see.

No, it doesn't work the same way. That has been the terminal I was trying. I only get enough signal to light the machine for a second or two the it fades out.

  4. Check with GMCBubba i think he uses that machine

Guys, I just found Allen Operating Instructions for a Model E-316 syncrograph and some other Allen test equipment. Wished I would have loaded the syncrograph machine out of that old shop, but it was nearly destroyed as it sat. It is likely that it has gone to the scrap by now, but will be checking on it later this week. Rod

Slightly ot but i have an old allen scope/analyzer that came from a dealorship in the '80's i'd say. Its a good sized machine. I tried to get it operating but couldn't get the trace working, it took it apart and found a burned foil capacitor in the pickup for the plug wire. I gathered up a sun scope and now the allen needs a new home. If anybody wants it shoot me a pm and cover shipping. it has all the accessory harnesses and timing light etc, no manual. Include your email in the pm and i'll send you pics.
I never replaced the capacitor and it still don't work.
