The car looks much better Tingler. I definitely like the f'glass fenders and bumper. Keep up the good work.
Yes, they are. I had Stockton move the backspacing on the rears to tuck them a little better than what's in the photo, and I also had them turn a set of 14s into 15x8's for the front. Saving up for a new set of white letter BFG's since nobody makes Big Boss 50's and 60's anymore...
did someone say 70 fairlane with keystones? i got mine. Tingler looks great but finish out the wheel wells and it will be killer.
Psychodisco is gonna be freakin' killer... sure, there will be some growing pains, as everyone tries to adapt. But...figure it this way: pompadors: the height is already there...it will only require mild reshaping, and kink-affying to mold into a fine afro! sideburns: again mild reshaping...and POW ! a set of HUGE ray-ban style, cop-shades...leisure suit, and some lumbo. It all began here...and you are all ahead of the curve... ( well, everyone that voted "yes" for cragars, anyway...)
I already got a vintage Cobra CB with matching trunk mount antenna, surfer pedals, and an aftermarket 8-track stuffed with Blue Oyster Cult. Not to mention I'm sitting on a mint set of NOS shackles in the box and rear shock spacers.... future big money baby....
Yet another example of why I am glad the 70's died before I was born ! I know it dates me, but I couldn't resist.
around here there were a lot of very fast cars with trailer hitches those light bumper mount ones !The "Man "would cut you some slack because the car rode high in the ass if you had a hitch .We had a height law here and any young person would get bagged for changing the ride height of their car.The one thing I remember staying in primer around here was the gutted front sheetmetal or glass nose on gasser type cars,This was supposed to show it was a serious hot rod the bucks up guys actually ran glass noses and those that couldn't afford one would gut the nose and paint the tin light gray primer for the look.My "senior sponsor"had 3 different 55-56 Chevy Sedan Deliveries set up like this
for those that are dising the 70s I have one thing to say that everyone will like.. JUNGLE PAM....I liked tinglers fairlane the first time I saw it at Mont Eagle Tenn..
There is a company out there that can "chrome" fiberglass. http://www.snschrome.com/ Kind of like the chrome you'd get in a plastic toy model kit. Can't be too much more than chroming a steel one these days. Plus check out the chrome toilet. Yes- really!
Sidepipes have to come back because they were cool. Hooker still sells 'em. What about the little trailer lights mounted on the shackles, or on the (painted) rear axle housing itself? We used to call 'em 'afterburners' LOL! More Deep Purple on the 8-track, man... I remember seeing lots of 'names' lettered on the jacked-up street machines of the era...and pinstripes, too. Lots of pinstripes. I'm 40 now, so I was a kid through the '70s...but I was already way into cars and I remember lots of this stuff. Slapper bars, ladder bars...N50s, L60s...all the 'pre-Centerline' wheels... Hoodscoops...dang, there were a lot of hoodscoops, but very few ever got molded in. Most were screwed or riveted into place. Tunnel rams...man, I remember seeing lots of them. Blowers would whine, but if you saw dual quads poking through the hood and there was no whine...it HAD to be a tunnel ram. Were there simply more fenderwell headers being built then? They seemed fairly common on Tri Fives and early '60s cars, like Novas. But, I remember seeing them on other not-so-common cars too. Maybe they were just adapted or something. CB Radios...dang. That was like the internet or something...a whole new way of communicating. "What's your handle?" LOL!! While I'm confident some of the 'style' aspects will come back into vogue, I'm also confident these same styling points will undergo some changes to suit modern times. While I'm not sure what that means yet, I think the modern 'versions' will be different from the originals. ...and I think a '77 Dodge van with flames and sidepipes would look really bitchin' towing a jacked up '71 Challenger to the drags...as long as the Challenger had a tunnel ram poking through the hood! ~Scotch~
All I know is that somebody could make a mint if they re-popped the old four-pipe van Zoomies.... My handle for the Satellite is the "Blue Goose" and look out, cause I'm flyin' low....
I got my DL in 75 and yep I like it. I've seen 55-57, hemi darts and early Falcons with radiused rear wells, but hadn't seen what that style rear (fairlanes, Comets, and later Falcons) opening would look like. Looks great. My opinion, that rear wheel well is begging for a plain white steel wheel with some pie crusts. Keep the cragars and some skinny runners in the front. Lose the front bumper and pick up a little Moon tank for grill...offset of course. I have a 64 Comet, Econoline axle (not installed), and a Recip saw, but I haven't had enough Shiners yet to start the AWB deal on the Comet. Keep going...I need the inspiration. Autoslim
I would agree with the pizza cutters on the front but the rear has to be M&H or Hoosiers. Then go to the truck stop with a 6 pack of beer and the mechanic would put a couple of grooves in the slicks and most law would leave you alone. Dave
FINALLY! I thought you were NEVER going to cut those damn quarter panels! Just wait 'till later this week... I'm gonna be joining Tingler in the street freakyness of the 70's... Sam.
Eh. Some guys like fat chicks, too. Heck, some guys don't even like women at all. Whatever turns you on, I guess, at least it doesn't have a big wing on the back made out of lawn chair parts and a couple stolen highway signs. I have an old Panasonic 8-track/AM/FM car deck, if you need one, buddy was going to throw it away, I figured maybe someone could use it. No idea if it works, but I'd sell it cheap.
