Hi All, I have been lurking here for a few weeks, but just signed up yesterday for an account. Felt like I might have something to offer. I am new to 'original hot rods' but not a poser type. Originally from Canada, but moved here to Madison, WI 7 years ago for work and fell in love with the place (and my wife!). I have in the past frame off'd a 69 camaro, and owned other camaro's, a chevell and a GTO that I have modified fairly seriously. Built a couple of serious Jeeps for crawling, and just finished a custom Harley for which I was contacted by Hotbike (poser mag, but hey, it may get me more money for it right?) and pics just submitted on Friday for. I have always loved rods from the 50's era, but there was nothing to use in Canada where I was from and I could only dream. Now here in the states, I am farm field hunting every couple of weeks now and finding all kinds of cool stuff I would have never found back up north. I am torn right now between setting my sights on building a 29 A roadster (like Von Franco's repo of the anderegg car) or a perfect reproduction 32-34 highboy. I am not a glass guy, I would take the time to patch together good metal. And yes, I am learning, I just spent over $500 on numerous hotrod mags from the 50's on Ebay auctions to learn all I can (broke again, but man, some great reading!). We all start somewhere I guess Again, not a poser, or someone wanting to get noticed. Just a guy who would like to build a real classic hot rod. Looking forward to hearing from you all!
bigdreams... Welcome to da HAMB... if you wanna learn about how to build a trad rod the right way (paint, and general BS aside... no one ever seems to agree on that kinda shit ) then this is the place to learn. i came here as a 50's custom lover, and they turned me to the dark side now i have a serious jones to build a hotrod as well as a growing pile of parts to do so... like i say, the knowledge and wisdom is here for the asking.
