Hello - anyone know about phase converters

Simon - UK native, here in Brooklyn NY, building my own media blasting/powder coating operation in the man cave, inspired by articles found here in HAMB.

My question now, in the ever-spiraling universe of compressors is, do I want to pop for a three phase converter for the motor? How much real advantage is there. I've even found plans for building your own VFR. Anyone done this with any success?
