I picked up this cowl and door at the swap, I think this could make a cool modified body. Im needing the right door and anyone know what year is this? Front half of touring? I was told 1925 or so. Thanx T.
I need some better pics, almost looks like a roadster instead of touring. But I'm still guessing. Looks like the windshield slants back, not verticle, so it is post '20 for sure.
The earlier Dodge open cars didn't have prominent bead across the top of the doors, did they? A friend, who is building a '25, is looking for a door like that for his project.
Can you give a measurement across the widest part of the cowl at the firewall? I'll check it against mine.
I agree with LowFat48. I believe it's 23 or later. I think the 17-22's didn't have the windshield mounted on the cowl like that.
Correct. Yours would fall in that 17-22 group. See how the winshield would mount flat on that lip. Mine is a 1918 body.
Thanx to all on this body ID, I think 61Bone has it nailed as a 1919, that being of course if his in fact is a 19. Now I know what to look for in a right front door to complete this body. I got 2 spare doors which are both left side rear? but different in style/year. Here we go again. I thought I could use the skin from one of these to make a right but to far off in shape. These could go to someone if needed, drop me a line. These have great latches/handles. Any help with the right 1919 front would be huge help. I'll post the rears both sides. Thanx T.
I don't know fellas. I sure would like to be educated, but I can't find a single picture or piece of evidence that would make that cowl a 1919. They didn't mount the windshield on the cowl like that. I'm not saying Google is always right, but every picture shows the 15-22's with the same style windshield mount and that's flat on top of that lip and not on the cowl. I believe you guys have 23 cowls. http://www.dodgebrothersclub.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=690
This cowl & the other that you THINK is a 1919 are NOT !!! First clue is the flat VS curved bottom windshild area & the the Lil Zig Zag at the bottom of the cowl where it would meet the frame. The Zig Zag was used from around '17 thru '24, The flat windshield was used only till 1922 when they switched to the curved bottom in '23. In '25 they straightened the frame rails so the cowl got straight. This cowl cant be '25 cus it aint straight, It ALSO cant be 1919 cus it dont have a flat area for the bottom winsheild glass. So... Curved cowl for Windsield, Zig Zag at bottom of cowl to fit curve in frame rails, But still has a Rectangle removable dash. THIS BODY IS DODGE.. 1923-24 BOTTOM LINE !! SO IS THE TOURING CAR ABOVE ! I have a true 1919 cowl & frame here, Bobby Green owns My old 1919 Roadster body & i had a 1917 Roadster cab & stipped a '20 Screen Side pick up a while back.. I know a Lil about Early Dodge bodys By the way, When ya ask for question & post up pics it best to get straight shots of single parts. Not Artsy Farty wild angle of multple parts stacke upon each other just an observation.
I think Desoto is right. Also the windshield pre '20 is verticle , slants back post '20, like this one.
Case dismissed. This is a 23/24. Much thanx for all the input. Can anyone use the right rear doors? Will also need that right front, what are the odds? Later T.
Been looking for doors for mine for a couple years. Thought I had a set found but the owner quit responding to mails. Have a really rusty one for a pattern and will probably make new ones.
According to the Serial Number Book It's pre 1923. 1916 - 1923 passenger car serial number range was 95,490 to 930,312. Check the Serial Number Book at this site http://www.t137.com/registry/help/partspages/SerialNumberGuide/slide008.html
I have a 23. This is not a 23. 24 and later had square bottom doors. The door handle dates it between 20 and 22
6 year old thread, DB17 ... but SINCE you brought it around, you wouldn't happen to have any 28 seats, would you?
The 102905 stamped into the front face of the cowl could be the body production number from Budd Manufacturing who was building Dodge Bros' all steel bodies in early years. It is hard to relate it to a year model exactly though. Unfortunately a serial number from the plate on the floor board or the crossmember of frame in front of seat would be necessary for that. I have a '17 Dodge Bros. touring.
Who has all the doors and deck lids for these old cars! I have 1918 dodge touring and need the passenger door. Also need a 1930 3w coupe deck lid.
