Hello everybody, I am John.... and I am an idiot when it comes to engines. I procured a 1950 Plymouth from my mother who purchased her from my great grandmother after my great grandfather p***ed 20 years ago. She had sat, garaged for roughly 10 years and the brakes had seized (so much so that I was barely able to drag her out of the garage with Gracie, my father's 83 F150). I had her taken to a shop as it would have cost too much to tow her back and I had no idea what was seized and didn't really know how to diagnose it. I regret that. Since then, in an effort to expedite the repairs to my family's car I have purchased a parts car and stripped off the necessary parts and given them to the shop. My car will be completed tomorrow or the next day and I will be bringing her home. From then on out, it will be maintained and repaired solely by me and whomever I can lure over to my house to aid me with the promise of free beer. God help us all. I understand how an engine works, I wrote the code for the Engine Control Unit on a Hydrogen/Electric Ford Explorer Hybrid for my senior year in college (she did 35MPH and knocked, but she did run... not bad from a guy more concerned with chasing skirts than determining at what fraction of a second the #1 piston was at TDC). But when it comes to turning a bolt or rebuilding a carb I am, for the most part, severely out of my league. I hope to rectify this and become a valuable member of the ranks of HAMB. John
Welcome to the Hamb. Remember to hand out the beer only when your friends have the days work done, or are really close to calling it quits for the day.
