Hey everyone, I'm new here. I'd thought I'd join to get more involved with classic cars and get some good advice on some stuff. I currently own a 1949 Chevy 2 Door Coupe, 216 with 3 on the tree. It's about 95% done. I love driving it. It's 100% original but plan on a 12 volt conversion soon. I don't know too much about cars but I'm learning! I'm currently having a problem with my car starting. It starts up fine when it's cold but when it's hot it doesn't want to start. Strange? It has a rebuilt generator and starter. The battery has a full charge on it? I'm wondering if I burnt out something because I sometimes need to jump it with a 12 volt. But then again if I burnt something out it would not start up strong when it's cold. Someone told me that the solenoid may be getting hot? Just need a few honest opinions. Thanks, Merv
Welcome aboard. Tough one to diagnose from afar. You might consider getting a battery rated at 8 volts (yes there is such an animal). Wont hurt anything, but will give you 8 volts at start-up. May be all you need to overcome the problem until it is properly diagnosed & fixed. Good luck.
