Hello to all members, I joined the forum yesterday. I'm helping my dad in building a 53 chevy 5 window. We've built a few street rods in the last 15 or so years. We restored my dad's 69 chevelle ss 396 hardtop back in the late 80's. Then my dad got the itch to build a street rod, he found a 47 ford coupe in San Antonio. We did the typical small block, auto, mustang front end etc... Then we thought "lets build a pickup", so we picked up a 37 Plymouth pickup in Indiana. We left the straight axle, and installed a small block,700r4, and 9 inch ford. The next project was a 51 chevy pickup, mustang front end, small block, 700r4, 12 bolt. We just started our latest pickup project, i've been looking at some of the threads on the forum for some advice, and it's helped me out. The 53 needs floors, rockers, inner and outer cowl, inner and outer cab corners. We also need to cut the longbed frame to a shorted, lots of welding and grinding for my dad ahead. thanks rudy
Welcome! I see you are from Willow Springs, a good deal of my misspent youth involved hanging around Santa Fe Speedway. Man I miss that place!
Welcome. Have fun with your projects and here on the HAMB. Born and partially raised in central Illinoizz
check out the A.D trucker group. the 3/4 ton frame is different that the 1/2 ton the springs are outside the frame on the 3/4 and the frame is narrower. the 1/2 ton has a wider rear frame and the springs are under the frame. the 3/4 ton is more similar to the modern style spring set up. these things are fun and have really been gaining popularity lately. the group I mentioned has tons of knowledge and will be a huge asset
