Hey Guys, just joined the site tonight and am looking forward to reading all the great info on here that I've only just skimmed over so far. I've already built up a 1951 M38 Willys jeep with a smallblock ford 302 V8, and am currently building a 1970 Chevelle SS with a blown 468 BBC. I am contemplating on purchasing a 1930 Model A truck "rat rod" project I found on CL and am trying to learn everything I can on here about them before pulling the trigger on the sale. Wish me luck..!

Thanks, and yes I've already read that this is a "traditional" site not a rat rod site, however the valuable info and knowledge to be learned on these pages as well as all the basic tips and tricks apply across the board no matter if your restoring a bone stocker or getting into something alot more wild.. I will be careful what I post. :D

Buy that "rat project" and rescue it from rust! There's A parts to be had up here still so it's a good start for a good traditional hot rod build.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys ! Well I DID eventually pull the trigger and bought the 30' model A pickup I was contemplating on snagging in my first post. Its a bit of a basketcase at the moment, but the money was right and it does run and drive, and also came with a legit Mass title. However, it is much more of a "bastard" than a traditional rod. The 1930 cab is actually damn near rust free, has been chopped 3" and channeled an inch, its got a chevy 350/TH350 combo, it was built on a fully boxed 30' coupe frame, and it has a bobbed and reversed 34' bed, and to top it off its got a dana 44 axle from a jeep wagoneer under the rear end ! Most purists will cringe at the description I just mentioned, however seeing the truck in person, the combination of it all simply works, and looks cool as hell. Time to tear it apart over the winter, and begin to rebuild it "my" way.
