Hello guys and gals. I've been living in China for 2 years now, originaly from Austin Tx. My son still lives there. I spend all my days dreaming about the hot rod I will build when I get back to USA. There's nothing good here, the oldest car I've seen is a '92 Changan. I love the stripped down look of traditional rods as well as the light weight. I want to build a model T or A hardtop( so I dont have to wear a helmet at the track) and I want to turbo it with a blowthrough carb. Can I just say I pulled the snails off of a Curtiss P-40 or something. Oh yeah and side pipes. I'm pretty good at welding and fabricating, so I can make my own pipes and stuff like that.
Welcome. What part of China are you presently living in ? Interesting there is no word in Chinese for Hot Rod.
I'm in Dujiangyan, Sichuan province where they had the big earthquake 3 years ago. It's Illegal to modify your engine in any way here. But since I live out in the country I could get away with it if I could find any good cars here. I just can't get excited about a VW Santana.
They would just say old car. jiu che or old fast car maybe. I showed my wife some hot rod pics and she says she likes 'em. So there's a domestic battle I won't have to worry about in the future.
Thanks and good morning. For now I'll just study up. Won't be there till next March. The wife says she wants one too. We have that "Back from the dead" video. She's never driven a car before. Be funny to see the look on the face of that trooper when fresh off the boat Chinese lady shows up for drivers license test in a '25 model T.
Ha, that would be funny! My mom has some funny stories when she came *off the boat* in the mid 60's. She is originally from Shanghai but raised in Taiwan after the Communists took over.
Think I'll let her practice with a pickup first. They don't drive very fast here. 100 KPH they start getting scared, 120 is the limit on the highway. I think that's about 70 MPH.
