Hello everyone. I'll be as brief as I can...... It all started I suppose in 1982 where I'd saved up enough paper round money to buy a glass '23T roller by the time I was 14 years old. Since then it's all been about messing around with old American and European cars, but really going no further back than the '50s. I have always loved early iron but never had the stones to get properly stuck into it....... Until now. I've been on the hunt for something a little different for a while now and since selling my old C10 I think I may have found it. This Saturday I, with a fair wind, am hoping to drive a nice, stock '31 Chevy Sedan AE6 home. Ill be taking it for a 200 mile drive to where I live in the south from its current owner in the north of this little rock we call the UK. Its a nice car won shows, been used for weddings and stuff so Im not going to do anything irreversible. Once Ive shaken the confetti out of the poor old thing (oh, the indignity!) my priority is to get it sitting right. Its running the 216 Stovebolt and brand new stock brakes and for now thats how Id like it to stay (ask again after the planned 200 mile trip!). Im happy to admit Im brand new to this and the prospect of buying something as unusual (especially for the UK) as an early Chevy leaves all my Model A driving buddies scratching their heads. This makes me want it all the more!! Whether I get this or another car of the same vintage Im committed to the cause now and Im going to be updating with progress and asking dumb questions on a regular basis. Thanks for having me. T
Welcome Sir, from the highlands of Scotland. Lived in Pimlico for 26yrs. Is your 31 the lovely cream coloured one recently advertised? If so, It's a HONEY!! Charlie.
welcome from the other side of the world. What part of London are you in? My ancestors lived all over the east End before moving south to Croydon
Thanks for the welcome. I've got to confess to over simplifying my location though. I'm actually in North West Kent which is just on the fringe of Greater London. Well, I got the Sedan!! Drove 250 miles home in it without issue yesterday (apart from a suspect sticky valve/rattly tappet when run a little too hard, thankfully it sorted itself out during a coffee break, but will need looking at). It's a big old lump, having a five inch longer wheelbase than the equivalent Ford. I like it though, everyone who's seen it says it's too nice to mess around with and they may be right which is why the changes I intend to make will be subtle.
On the money there Trux. A great car bought from the nicest fella you'd ever want to meet. I'll post some photos in the appropriate place, assuming I can find it...
Welcome from Westminster, Maryland, up near the Mason-Dixon Line that is the edge between Md & Pennsylvania. Starting at the end of August, we will be on tour starting in London, then outward bound and on to Scotland and Wales. It would be quite a treat to see some old iron on our trip, running on the wrong side of the road.
