    Hey yall!
My names John, I live near Cincinnati but grew up in East Tennessee. I’ve cruised this forum for a while for information and inspiration, great content and excellent folks here. Now Im saying hi because i will be starting a project and may need some advice and answers.

The project is a 1930 A model De Luxe Copue that I released from the Ford barn/parade circuit. Somebody did a pretty nice home brewed restoration, but she somehow fell from grace and I scooped her up for a decent price. Thanks! She is pretty nice, somebody spent some time and treasure on her. If anybody knows this car and can add some background id love to hear it.

As for plans here is the long story short: basic burger and fries 1960s hot rod. A 283 with three deuces, lowered I beam, hair pins, juice brakes, big n littles with smoothies or torque thrusts, nine inch with lader bars and most likely a torque flight. Full fenders, no haircut until we see how she looks with the drop and wheels.

Here is the long story long:

The backstory as far as I know it: Roxy (the name given to her by the wife and kids) was in West Virginia a few years ago and was likely restored there. She then went through a Mecum auction and didnt fetch big money. A fella an hour west of me in Indiana put her up for sale on Craigslist for $12,800.

My ‘64 c10 (Tiffany) had recently got a 327 to replace a very sweet but slightly under powered 283 two barrel. That 283 sat in the corner of the garage and encouraged me to find it a new home. When a restored 1930 Model A showed up for less than half the price of a re-pop body i knew exactly where that mouse motor needed to go!

Because Roxy is a running driving car I figured we could spend some time and get to know each other. Maybe a stock Model A was a joy to behold and needed no modifications whatsoever. After all, lots of members here hop up four bangers a bit and like it fine. Shoot, theres whole other forums for guys that just preserve and restore them!

So I rinsed out the gas tank, cleaned the carb, charged the battery and started driving it around my neighborhood. It is good fun to load kids in the rumble seat and motor at 25 on quiet side streets. But thats about where the fun ends for me.

Driving a stock Model A feels like driving a golf cart on stilts. An underpowered golf cart with bad brakes and nefarious steering. I cant immagine ever taking Roxy downtown in contemporary traffic. I can clearly immagine what a fella in 1964 would think when he gets out of his C10 and into 1930 motorized horse carriage.

So i started pricing new brakes, boxing the frame, modifying the suspension and on and on. Thats when i wised up and used up the rest of the fun money and ordered a new rolling chasis from RJays in Missouri. They tell me it will be ready in early May. When it is ready the c10 will boogie on over and carry it back to Cincy. After all, it is kinda her fault im into this project.

Hey yall, I aint trying to do a build thread just quick update at halftime. Chassis is painted and assembled. Brakes are plumbed and bled. Exhaust is all tacked up but wont finish weld it until the body and drivetrain are all in.

The body is yanked off the old and getting ready for its new home. It was a decent home brew restoration but she was definitely a ten footer, with tons of chips, a lot of dry spray, and a few waves. A lot of new parts didnt get any paint and had gotten flash rusty. She was not concours ready.

I was gonna use the old firewall and just flip it but it was patchy and had extra ventilation at the cowl. There was also a bunch of pigeon poop welds at the toe boards but thats all cleaned up and the new firewall is in.
