Hey all, My name is Ed and I'm a rat-a-holic. I found this place through the AACA boards and I am glad that I did! I live just north of Seattle in Ferndale, Washington and been here for about 5 years now. I have been wrenching on cars since I was a teenager and even if I can't do something, I will at least give it a try. Give me a couple of frosty beverages and my willingness to take on a new task gets stronger. I have always loved all cars and everything associated with them. Vintage iron is my favorite, but I still like the muscle car era of the 60's and very early 70's, but the cars before then...such classic lines, you just can't get any better than a '49 Merc in suede black or a chopped deuce with 60 year old patina from sitting in a barn that's been dropped to the ground and has all the full race parts from the 30's to 50's on it. Old aluminum airplane seats, mile high gear shifters, big ol' whitewalls...yeah, the stuff I have been dreaming of for a long time I've been into this culture for a few years now and have always wanted to build a car that's different than everyone else's car for a bunch of reasons. I'm flat-ass broke most of the times so my mods need to be simple, but effective. I'm nearly disabled, which doesn't mean too much but hey, it's worth mentioning. Cars before 1968 have always had a soft spot in my rusty heart. I just got my first pre-60's car about a week ago, a 51 Chev 4-door Styleline DeLuxe. It's got a locked up but pretty complete straight 6 (not sure if it's a 215 or not), the floors are in decent shape...just a little rocker panel rot but that's nothing much for me to worry about. I just want a runner, I don't shiv a git what it looks like. So here I am. I have my '51 and I am looking forward to learning from you all and very anxious to get my car on the road, where it deserves to be. If anyone can help me identify the size of this engine, it would be awesome. I have been told it could be a 215, 216, 225 and a 235. 225 and 216 don't sound like a real engine size of the era so I would guess it would either be a 215 or 235. Are there any identifying traits to identifying a 215 from others? Also, if anyone needs anything from the engine (or the whole damn engine) let me know as all under the hood is going to be departing, including 3 on tree trans.
Welcome from down south. You might want to keep the R-word to yourself its kinda a hot topic around here its traditional hot rods and customs Just a word of warning
welcome but drop the word rat rod from your vocabulary when posting here to most of us it equates to piece of shit we try to discourage piece of shit cars here.
Thanks guys for the welcoming! The "rats" have been exterminated. I want my ride to be safe, not a pile of crap and will do what I can to make it safe. I see a few people that are pretty close to me...I'm in Ferndale, just north of Bellingham. Are there any clubs out this way?
