Great group guys ! I just came across the "social group" area of the HAMB and Im glad ive found it ! I recently aquired a 56 Customline tudor post in great condition and was having a hard time finding alot of info on these cars. Im looking to swap out the old y-block, and not getting alot of help on that y-block site... Looks like a few here have done a swap or two so Im looking forward to all your advice im gonna need on the engine/trans swap and also a quick brake system upgrade just to improve drivability. Im gonna have a look around now, im sure i'll be asking many questions !
hello and welcome congrats on finding us and on your car!!!i visted b.c. once when i was younger i thought Canada was beautiful place at least the parts i saw....as far as staying drums brakes i plan on doing it this way... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=21285 if you talk to or p.m. jeffb2 he can help you out alot on what to get. once again welcome! tim
Thanks for the link ! Im just throwing around some ideas for the winter "projects" . Right now the car is stock 272, 3 spd manual. On the floor now Stock motor, trans and drum brakes... l
Aint nothing wrong with that stock set up... can make a nice sounding ang good runner for less money than changing the drive train..My 2 cents My dad was born in Thetford Mines Canada. We used to visit 2 or three times a year, it is beautifull country... Gerry
I appreciate your thoughts #1 , the y-block runs well but has no power, and the stock crossover exhaust has to go. My ****** could outrun the 56- thats a shame... Ive got a good running 429 and c6 on the shop floor, but leaning towards an EFI 5.0L swap with a 5spd. Its still up in the air, but for the cost of a 4bbl intake and headers for the Y- i can have either of the others installed, and have a bit more pep.
Welcome from So Cal. I just got mine running with a 302/5 speed. Some fabrication but I think it will be worth it. The old 312 sounded like it was really moving when I drove it but it wasn't. Very nice looking car, love the color combo.
Welcome, nice looking car. The sbf is an easy swap and a BBF is not that hard either. The only issue you might run into with the BBF swap is length of room but these cars it is supper easy to move the radiator ahead several inches to gain all the room you might need. I have a lot of pictures posted at the link below of my swap and moving my radiator ahead. http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/fordsbyjay/1956%20Ford%20Mainline/ You aren't kidding about about the Poutine. Costco in Canada carries it and it always a favorite when we go there.
welcome from illinois. and since we are thinking of canadian products, lets not forget tim hortons coffee. the crack cocain of the coffee world well, i liked it anyway.
Thanks guys. I think the painted bumpers make the car look shorter. I gonna try a larger pic. Im gonna have to try the insert image option, since I dont have the "manage attachments" option. Here goes. Tell me what you guys think.
sorry for the bad post I was trying to load up a picture... My other car... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=28053
Welcome Jeff, from the Far East of the Western world,. Great group here with lots of expertise. Enjoy.
Double Diaphram power booster, disc brakes, AC,cruise controll. Has become a real pleasure to drive, one issue with the power steering i must look at, very touchy and sensitive I think I'll need to lower the pressure the pump puts out, too much for the 56 power ***ist.
In my 55 I had the 272 but with the FoM that leaked awful ! I was going to put a 3 speed in the car and rebuild the engine with a better cam and a 3x2 set up on top , BUT after all the money i would have spent , I could get the HP that I wanted so I went with the 302 and C4 for mine . Sometimes I still wish I had that Y block back in my car and put a 4 speed trans in it . That engine had a lot of get up and go ! Ran very strong and pulled very well . They also have a great sound to them too ! Jim
Hi Jeff Nice looking ride. I live near Niagara Falls in Ontario. My 56 has had a bunch of FE Fords and small block Chev powerplants. I swapped a '95 injected lt1 into a 62 Pontiac, but haven't ventured into injection Fords, but am always interested. Let me know if I can ever help.
Thanks Pete ! One of my other projects is an 87 vette, where Ive had to swap the TPI, harness and ecm in. Im in the "tuning" stages right now with it.
