Hey everyone, first and foremost, my name is Kenny. I've been secretly browsing this site for years, yet never registered. I've been building cars/trucks for many years as a personal hobby. I've built 4x4's, Imports, mustangs, bagged trucks.. never had anything older than a 77 f150 though. Well this past weekend I sold my last build (2000 Silverado) and ended up picked up a 1954 Chevy 210 2 door. oldest car I've owned. I have always been a fan of older vehicles, just never got my hands on one. The 210 is for the most part stock/original, minus that its been lowered front and rear. I believe it had an early restore maybe in the 70's due to the carpet inside, the car was originally green, but was painted 2 tone red/white, and interior recovered red/white still has 235 motor w/ 3 on the tree, converted to 12v. anyways, its by no means a gem, and i plan to start building it. I've been trying to do some research on tips and help, and my searches keep landing me here..so i decided id finally register.. Here is the 210 how i got it.. it had clear coat on it, i ended up knocked down the gloss in the clear because it looked bad, now its flat..
Also i forgot to add, i plan to put air ride on the car to lay the rockers flat on the ground. basically going to build a complete new frame for it, but use an s10 front clip, throw and s10 rear under it and convert it all to disc power brakes. going this route because i really want this thing laying flat rocker without cutting the floor up inside the car (minus the trunk floor, that will be cut and tubbed). doing s10 parts because they are readily available and if something happens on a road trip, parts will be on hand at parts stores...and its cheaper.. i have many many ideas for it. but laying it on the ground is my biggest priority. my biggest issue is the motor/trans, i dont mind the 235, but not liking the transmission. id really like to throw an over drive 700r4 in it, but for the cost of parts, i could just drop a V8 in it. my issue with this is i drive to national car shows across the eastern coast. i do not enjoy trailering, i like to drive my vehicles. anyways, thats my biggest issue with the car is figuring my drive train configuration. that 3 speed just wont cut it on a 6-7 hour trip.. ive tossed the idea back in forth of since i plan to run an s10 clip, maybe put a modern fuel injected 4.3 v6 motor/trans in it.. i plan to buy a salvaged s10/blazer for all the suspension parts and may as well snag the motor and trans out? but if im going to put a different motor in it, why not a v8... inputs and suggestions are greatly appreciated.. i love constructive criticism..
welcome to the Hamb from Youngstown. Where in Ohio are you. you will find tones of information on "how to" everything on the site. Im currently building a 54 Wagon. will keep and eye out for posts and pics of the build.
Great intro Kenny. Cars looking great. Welcome to the h.a.m.b. from Michigan and New Mexico. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Thanks for the welcomes! I'm in Dayton Ohio as well. The car has been lowered 3inches in the rear with blocks, and the front springs have been cut, dropping it maybe 2 inches..was already done when I got it.
